“A Frozen Flower”: A Historical Epic of Forbidden Love and Desire
The plot of “A Frozen Flower”centers on three main characters: King Gong Min, Queen No Guk, and Hong Rim, the head of the royal guard. Despite being a king known for his intelligence and fighting skills, Gong Min harbors a forbidden secret – his heart belongs solely to Hong Rim.
Despite being married to Queen No Guk, Gong Min does not reciprocate her love. As she navigates the lonely and isolating palace life, Queen No Guk yearns for love and affection. When she meets Hong Rim, she immediately gives in to her desires. Similarly, Hong Rim also finds himself caught in a tumultuous internal struggle between his loyalty to the king and his growing feelings for the queen.
As No Guk and Hong Rim’s relationship grows stronger, Gong Min becomes increasingly jealous. This leads him to cruelly order Hong Rim’s castration and imprisonment. Aware of Gong Min’s intentions to eliminate anyone who knows about their bond, No Guk warns Hong Rim’s loyal supporters to save him.
Despite his madness, Gong Min relentlessly pursues Hong Rim, willing to shed blood in his pursuit. Eventually, Hong Rim is forced to make the decision to kill the king, resulting in a deadly confrontation. Upon hearing Hong Rim’s confession that he never truly loved him, Gong Min releases his grip and embraces death. Tragically, both men meet their demise, leaving No Guk as the witness to their fateful end.
The movie showcased an impressive ensemble, consisting of well-known names in the entertainment world. So, what have the leading actors been busy with since then?
Actress Song Ji Hyo
In her portrayal of Queen No Guk in the film “A Frozen Flower,”Song Ji Hyo delivered a bold performance in order to fully embody the character. This led to some criticism from certain audience members who believed that her actions compromised her image.
Despite the backlash, Song Ji Hyo remains committed to the film.
During the nine months that I dedicated to this role, I gave it my all. The majority of the intimate scenes were filmed around 40 times. When I accepted this project, I didn’t dwell on the amount of nudity required. To me, it was not about that; the purpose of those scenes was to further the audience’s comprehension of the characters. Along with bringing the director’s vision to life, I strived to convey emotions through subtle facial expressions.
Despite her role in the successful film “A Frozen Flower,”Song Ji Hyo has continued to work in both television and film. However, her recent film “Meeting House”did not receive much attention. Her last major film role was in 2020. On television, she has not had any significant projects since the 2021 drama “The Witch’s Diner.”In the past three years, she only made a cameo appearance in “Shooting Stars.”
Joo Jin Mo
Despite being a well-known name to K-drama viewers, Joo Jin Mo’s career faced a setback in 2019 when his role as King Gong Min in “A Frozen Flower” earned him recognition at the Baeksang Awards. This was due to a personal scandal involving leaked private messages, which caused harm to his reputation.
Despite the punishment given to the responsible hacker, Joo Jin Mo’s acting career has been negatively affected. Following his last project, “The Battle: Roar to Victory,”in which he starred alongside Han Ye Seul, he has not been seen in any other works.
Jo In-Sung

In the TV series, Jo In Sung portrayed the character of Kim Doo Shik, a skilled spy known for his aerial abilities, who was married to Lee Mi Hyun (Han Hyo Joo). He also starred as one of the main actors in the highly successful 2023 film “Smugglers,”which earned a whopping $37.8 million at the box office.
In addition to his other projects, Jo In Sung is set to star in the upcoming film “Hope”alongside Hwang Jung Min, Jung Ho Yeon, Alicia Vikander, and Michael Fassbender. The highly anticipated movie is expected to be released in the latter half of 2024.
