The Shadow of Erdtree DLC introduces the Greatsword and armor of Solitude to Elden Ring, making them available for players to obtain.
For those who prefer a heavy weapon and protective armor, these newly released armaments are a perfect fit. If you’re interested in obtaining the Greatsword of Solitude and its accompanying armor set, here’s how you can acquire them.
How to get Solitude Greatsword & armor
By vanquishing the Blackgaol Knight, you can acquire the Greatsword of Solitude and Solitude armor set.
Blackgaol Knight location
The Western Nameless Mausoleum, located in the west of Gravesite Plains (refer to the map below for its exact location), is where the Blackgaol Knight can be found.
Here’s where you’ll find the Blackgaol Knight boss.
Head to the Western Nameless Mausoleum and you will come across a flight of stairs leading downwards. Descend the stairs and enter the fog to engage in a battle with the Blackgaol Knight. Upon defeating the boss, you will receive the Solitude Greatsword and armor set as a reward.
How to Defeat the Blackgaol Knight
When entering the boss room, it is important to wait for the knight to perform his ranged crossbow attack. To avoid taking damage, swiftly move to the left or right before charging straight towards him while he is vulnerable.
To succeed, remain patient and try to evade his powerful attacks. The Blackgaol Knight is immune to status effects, but using heavy weapons such as Great Swords, Great Axes, and Hammers will interrupt his attacks and deal significant damage.
If your build lacks a heavy weapon, you will have to rely on timing and patience since the boss fight does not permit the use of summons to distract the boss.

Best build
The optimal build for the Solitude Greatsword and armor set prioritizes Strength and Endurance. This will allow you to carry and effectively use the Greatsword of Solitude, as it scales with Strength. Additionally, investing in Endurance will increase your equip load, making it easier to wield the powerful weapon.
I would also suggest using items such as Great-Jar’s Arsenal and Erdtree’s Favor +2, as they will further enhance your max equip load.
If you’re a fan of Strength builds and are looking for something new to enjoy in the early stages of the Elden Ring DLC, then you should definitely try out this Greatsword and armor. It’s powerful enough to carry you through all the battles in Shadow of the Erdtree. Alternatively, if you prefer a faster weapon, consider checking out the Beast Claw.
