The release of the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga has resulted in a shift in the series’ focus, moving away from the Otsutsuki and cyborgs and towards the Shinju. While the term Shinju typically refers to God Trees, those depicted in the series have distinct characteristics. Thus, the question remains, who exactly are the Shinju in Boruto?
Following their consumption of non-Otsutsuki beings, Claw Grimes transformed into sentient God Trees known as Shinju. These evolved God Trees not only gained the powers of the Ten-Tails, but also took on the appearances and chakra signatures of those they absorbed. This process resulted in the creation of unique Shinju, each bearing the traits of the beings they consumed.

The Shinju Group and Its Members, Explained
The current chapters of the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga have introduced four members of the Shinju group. These individuals include Jura, Hidari, Matsuri, and Mamushi. While Jura holds the position of leader within the group, the manga has not yet disclosed the identity of the person from whom he was created by the Claw Grime.
In addition to the four Shinju members, there is also a new God Tree that has been hinted at in the manga. This character will be revealed in future chapters, but as for the other members, Hidari is inspired by Sasuke Uchiha, Matsuri is modeled after Moegi Kazamatsuri, and Mamushi is based on Bug.
The Collective Goal of the Shinju in Boruto
The Shinju in Boruto have a collective desire to consume Boruto. This is because, as a God Tree, it is inherent in their nature to absorb an Otsutsuki in order to achieve their ultimate form.
Despite this, Code’s chakra inadvertently granted the Shinju self-awareness, resulting in an insatiable curiosity and desire for knowledge within them. As a result, they were driven to consume their chosen targets in order to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and their own identities.
The Individual Goals of the Shinju
The manga series depicted the Shinju as being very uncertain about how to handle their intense curiosity regarding their own identity. In response, the leader of the group proposed that they redirect their focus towards consuming their chosen targets.
Despite not fully understanding the reason, Jura felt an intense instinctual urge to consume Naruto Uzumaki. As a God Tree, it was strange to desire someone who was not an Otsutsuki, considering their distinct evolution. However, Jura firmly believed that following this innate drive would ultimately lead to an advantageous evolution.
With that in mind, Jura instructed the Shinju members to tune in to their inner voice and determine their individual targets. Following Jura’s guidance, Matsuri came to the realization that her personal target was Konohamaru Sarutobi. Feeling a strong connection to his inner turmoil, Matsuri believed that she was instinctually drawn to him.
Despite unknown reasons, Mamushi had the ability to perceive Eida watching them with her Senrigan. As soon as this was realized, the Shinju chose to focus on Eida. Additionally, Hidari made the decision to target Sarada Uchiha as his own personal objective.
