Who are Yuno’s parents in Black Clover? Explained

Throughout the early stages of Yuki Tabata’s manga Black Clover, fans were constantly curious about the identity of Yuno’s parents. This is not surprising, as Yuno is initially portrayed as an orphan but quickly proves to possess exceptional magical abilities on par with those of noble families in the world of the series.

Despite fans being eager to know the answer to “who are Yuno’s parents in Black Clover,”it is unfortunate that they have to wait for a significant portion of the series. This is because Yuno’s origins did not have much impact on the narrative. However, in the Heart Kingdom Joint Struggle and Spade Kingdom Raid arcs, Yuno’s origins finally take center stage and play a crucial role in the events of both arcs.

Yuno’s Royal Lineage in Black Clover

In the anime series Black Clover, Yuno is the son of Loyce and Ciel Grinberryall, who were the previous rulers of the Spade Kingdom until they were ousted by the Zogratis siblings. As a result, Yuno is the rightful heir to the throne and assumes the position of prince of the Spade Kingdom once the Zogratis siblings are defeated during the Spade Kingdom Raid arc.

Sadly, the Spade Kingdom’s royal family is now limited to only Yuno and his mother Ciel, as Yuno’s father Loyce was killed by the Zogratis siblings. Fortunately, Ciel managed to escape and is being protected by citizens who remain loyal to the Grinberryall family.

As a result, the Resistance is formed, comprising of civilians who remain loyal to Ciel and Yuno and refuse to accept the Dark Triad’s reign. They play a crucial role in the Spade Kingdom Raid arc by aiding in the fight against the Dark Triad. Fortunately, Ciel and Yuno are finally reunited at the end of the arc, finally putting an end to the mystery surrounding Yuno’s parentage in Black Clover.

Explaining How Yuno was Separated from and Reunited with His Parents

As previously stated, Yuno’s parents were separated due to the actions of the Dark Triad, also referred to as the Zogratis siblings, who took control of the Spade Kingdom by overthrowing the Grinberryall family. This occurred within the first year of Yuno’s life, with the siblings launching their attack shortly after. The events of this tragic event are depicted in chapter 234 of the manga series, where Ralph Niaflem’s Flame Magic: Trace Mirage spell allows fans to witness the tragedy firsthand.

The spell illuminates the pivotal moment in Black Clover’s past when the Spade Kingdom was conquered by the Zogratis siblings. In a valiant effort to protect Yuno, a group of soldiers who were faithful to the Grinberryall family fled with him, including Ralph’s father. Despite his injuries, Ralph’s father bravely carried Yuno to the border of the Grand Magic Zone, which served as a dividing line between the Spade and Clover Kingdoms. Unfortunately, his injuries were too severe for him to safely cross the zone.

“Hence, he employs his ultimate spell to transport Yuno’s cradle across the area and place him on the church porch, where they are eventually discovered by Asta in Hage.”

After Ralph crosses the Grand Magic Zone in search of Yuno, he collapses on the steps of the Hage church, where Sister Lily Aquaria and Father Orsi Orfai call for Yuno’s help. Through his Trace Mirage spell, Ralph shows Yuno the events that have led to this moment. These events are crucial in setting up the Spade Kingdom Raid arc, which ultimately leads to Yuno reclaiming his princely position and reuniting with his mother Ciel.
