Despite the chaos of Chainsaw Man, Aki Hayakawa stands out as the most ordinary person among the group. Just like any regular individual, he follows a daily routine that includes reading the morning newspaper and getting ready for his job as a Devil Hunter for Public Safety, just like anyone else would.
As more information was uncovered about his relentless pursuit of the Gun Devil, it became clear that his driving force was fueled by the suffering it had caused him and countless others. As fans speculated about his potential love interest, it was ultimately revealed to be none other than Makima.
Explaining Aki’s Canon Love Interest in Chainsaw Man
At its core, Aki Hayakawa had strong feelings for Makima. At first, it appeared that he held her in high regard and was always willing to fulfill her requests. However, as events unfolded, it became clear that Aki harbored romantic feelings for Makima. He also had immense faith in her.
However, Makima’s feelings were far from reciprocated. She showed little regard for his emotions and only seemed to value him as a means to an end. Despite this, she did display a level of respect towards Aki’s judgment and skills.
She would rather have him, instead of someone else, take care of Denji and Power. However, he was simply another piece in her larger plan involving Pochita.

As previously stated, Aki had strong feelings for Makima and was infatuated with her. However, as Makima’s true identity and intentions were exposed, Aki’s love may have been rooted in something else. Little did anyone know, Makima was actually the Control Devil, representing the fear of Control/Conquest.
As she was, she had the power to dominate and greatly sway those she deemed beneath her. This dominance likely sparked Aki’s emotions towards her. It could also clarify why he could never remember why he was drawn to her.
Exploring Aki’s Feelings for Himeno
Initially, Aki was paired with Himeno as her partner after her previous comrade passed away. She initially saw him as a fellow teammate and was determined to keep him safe due to the dangerous nature of their job. Additionally, she was the one who introduced him to smoking.
As time went by, the two worked side by side and their bond grew stronger. Himeno developed feelings for him and openly expressed her admiration, describing him as “cool”and “normal.”However, it remained unclear if Aki reciprocated her feelings as not much was revealed about his sentiments towards her.
It can be confidently stated that there was a mutual connection between them that went beyond a mere friendship or professional relationship. However, for Himeno, this connection was much stronger than it was for Aki.
