Who is Barem in Chainsaw Man? Explored

The Chainsaw Man manga has featured a multitude of characters who have acted as adversaries in the narrative. Although Fujimoto has swiftly eliminated many of these villains upon their introduction, none have received as much focus as Makima, except for Barem.

Barem, also known as the Flamethrower Devil Hybrid, first appeared in Part 1 of the manga. However, it was in Part 2 where he gained significance and became a fan favorite due to his increased involvement. In Part 1, Barem was a forgettable minor character, but his true and sinister nature, which was unveiled in Part 2, added to the unsettling nature of his character.

This article includes spoilers for the Chainsaw Man manga. Please proceed with caution.

Barem Bridge was initially introduced as a supporting character towards the end of Part 1 of the Chainsaw Man manga, where he was revealed to be one of the Devil Hybrids. Despite being under the control of Makima, he displayed glimpses of his unstable and violent nature during his battle against the Hero of Hell.

Currently, there is limited information available about Barem Bridge’s personal life, except for his unwavering loyalty to Makima and her cause, even without her direct manipulation. In the Chainsaw Man church arc, Barem Bridge resurfaced as an antagonist and has since remained a constant threat to Denji as he continues to harness his powers as a Flamethrower devil hybrid.

The Role of Barem in Chainsaw Man

Despite initially being portrayed as an unremarkable side character, Barem’s role shifted in Part 2 as he became more actively involved in his efforts to ruin Denji’s life and bring out the Hero of Hell. This change occurred after being brainwashed and acting as Makima’s puppet.

While the Death Devil may be perceived as the primary antagonist of Part 2, Barem should not be underestimated as he plays a crucial role as the main antagonist through his actions and involvement in the story.

Barem has purposely taken actions to disrupt Denji’s life and tranquility, such as eliminating Nayuta and setting his house and pets on fire. Moreover, Barem intentionally presented Nayuta’s decapitated head to Denji, ultimately causing him to lose control and release the Hero of Hell.

Despite being released from her control, Barem remains completely loyal to Makima and her cause. He has expressed his unwavering faith in her, believing that she could have single-handedly resolved the Death Devil crisis.

Despite being “killed”by the Hero of Hell in Chainsaw Man Chapter 171 of the manga, Barem may make a comeback in future chapters as he has shown resilience in recovering from fatal injuries before.

Barem’s Powers and Abilities

Barem, along with Quanxi, Reze, and Katana Man, was one of the first Devil Hybrids to confront the Hero of Hell in Part 1 of the manga. As the literal Flamethrower Devil Hybrid, Barem displayed impressive firepower and destructive capabilities. However, his abilities are not particularly unique, and he is known for his cold and calculating nature and penchant for cruelty.

Barem is known for his cunning schemes and ruthless tactics in achieving his objectives, highlighting his position as a lesser Devil Hybrid compared to Quanxi, Reze, and possibly Katana Man. As a Devil Hybrid, he possesses enhanced durability, strength, regenerative abilities, and nearly unbreakable immortality as a result of his transformation.
