Who is Jet in Avatar: The Last Airbender on Netflix?

Avatar: The Last Airbender is the most watched series of the moment on Netflix, but one of the characters intrigues viewers quite a bit.

The live-action series based on the famous cartoon caused a sensation on Netflix upon its release. The ambitious adaptation Avatar: The Last Airbender has won over audiences, finding new fans while reassuring older ones.

Obviously, to find its own identity, the live-action series had to make changes, sometimes significant ones. But these few changes mostly didn’t bother the community, who happily welcomed the intense story and its colorful cast of protagonists.

However, among these characters, there is one who has disconcerted a lot of Netflix subscribers: Jet, leader of young resistance fighters operating in Omashu, who differs from his original counterpart. Who is he in the live-action series and in the cartoon?

Who is Jet in Avatar: The Last Airbender?

Jet is the leader of a group of children from the Earth Kingdom, who call themselves the Freedom Fighters. In the live-action series, he is played by Sebastian Amoruso, an actor already in the casting of the 2021 version of Remember Last Summer.

When Aang, Sokka and Katara first meet him in episode 10 of the original series, he is the charismatic leader of the Freedom Fighters. He has no trouble convincing Katara of the merits of his approach, which consists of rebelling against the oppression of the Fire Nation. Until the young girl discovers that he is ready to sacrifice a village and its inhabitants, then forced to welcome Ozai’s troops.

Luckily, Aang and his friends stop him before anyone gets hurt and the two groups go their separate ways. They will only meet up in book two, in Ba Sing Se, the last true stronghold of the Earth Kingdom.

In the Netflix adaptation, Aang and his team meet Jet when he and the Freedom Fighters are already established within the confines of the great Earth Kingdom city, Omashu. The young man does not intend to annihilate a village: this time, he plans to directly assassinate King Bumi, whom he considers a traitor who would not do enough to repel the soldiers of the Nation of Fire. Jet’s fate in the first season remains the same in both versions, since the group abandons him after immobilizing him with Katara’s ice.

But in the cartoon, the character reappears in Book 2, that of Earth. His role is more important, so it is entirely possible that the protagonist will reappear in the live-action series, provided that a season 2 of Avatar: The Last Airbender is announced by Netflix.
