Who is Kishibe’s Love Interest in Chainsaw Man? An Explanation of His Canon Romance

Kishibe, one of the most renowned and admired characters in Chainsaw Man, has made notable appearances in both the manga and anime. Despite serving as Denji and Power’s mentor in the anime, his involvement in Part 1 of the manga is more prominent.

Despite the high mortality rate in his profession as a devil hunter, Kishibe has managed to survive well into his fifties. With his seasoned demeanor and status as an older generation hunter, many have questioned who Kishibe’s love interest may be. Although he has attempted to confess his feelings in the past, his potential relationship with Quanxi was rejected, and there has been no confirmation of any other romantic pursuits for him.

Please note – This article includes spoilers for the Chainsaw Man series.

Kishibe’s Canon Love Interest in Chainsaw Man

Despite being last seen at the end of Part 1 and mentioned by Quanxi in Part 2, Kishibe has maintained his reputation as one of the most enigmatic and secretive characters in the series. Despite being referenced in dialogues, he has yet to make an appearance in Part 2.

Despite the lack of information about Kishibe’s early and current life, extra panels published in Volume 8 of the manga provided a glimpse into his past. These additional pages revealed a young Kishibe joining the Public Safety Department and being assigned to work with Quanxi, who is his only confirmed love interest.

Despite being described as extremely strong during his youth, Kishibe’s overconfidence, arrogance, and womanizing tendencies were often noted. Upon being paired up, he quickly pursued a romantic relationship with Quanxi. She remains his only confirmed love interest throughout the entire series.

Kishibe and Quanxi’s History, Explained

The roots of Kishibe and Quanxi’s connection can be traced back to the earliest days of the devil hunters. Although Quanxi is often referred to as the first devil hunter, the manga reveals that she and a young Kishibe were partnered together as a duo.

Despite Kishibe’s repeated attempts to woo her while they were both devil hunters, Quanxi chose to ignore them, neither definitively rejecting nor accepting his advances.

Kishibe finally mustered up the courage to confess his feelings to Quanxi after nine years of working together at the Public Safety Department. However, his advances were met with a surprising response – Quanxi revealed that she had recently come to terms with her attraction to women.

Despite what others may believe, Kishibe was not upset by the rejection. In fact, he was glad to receive it as he had already noticed Quanxi’s orientation and saw the rejection as a proper way to say goodbye.

Kishibe and Quanxi share a strong sense of mutual respect, evident in both Part 1 and Part 2. In fact, Quanxi goes as far as to protect Denji from harm because of a warning from an “old friend”who advised her not to make an enemy out of him.

Despite speculation among fans that this “old friend”could be someone else, Kishibe was explicitly referred to as “old friend”during Part 1. While Quanxi has appeared multiple times in Part 2, Kishibe has not made a single appearance.

It is possible that Kishibe, who has only been mentioned once by Quanxi without being referred to as if he were dead, is alive and carrying out a clandestine mission at present.

Recently in Chainsaw Man Chapter 173, it was revealed that the Public Safety Department is currently conducting tests on the Hero of Hell to determine his abilities and limitations. It is highly likely that Kishibe will join the battle against the Hero of Hell at this time.
