Who is the MCU’s Anchor Being in Earth-616? We think we know

In the MCU multiverse, Deadpool and Wolverine introduce the concept of Anchor Beings, but it raises a significant question: which individuals in Earth-616 does this concept apply to?

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Sacred Timeline is known as Earth-616, serving as the central universe around which all events revolve. While this may not please comic readers, it is important to move past any frustrations and accept this as fact.

Deadpool hails from Earth-10005, also known as the Fox universe and X-Men timeline. Tragically, his world is gradually deteriorating at the beginning of the latest film, following the death of Wolverine in Logan.

According to Mr. Paradox, Logan (the one we’ve been acquainted with for nearly 25 years) was an Anchor Being, but the identity of Earth-616’s Anchor Being remains a mystery. Spoilers will be revealed in the following text.

Firstly, What is an Anchor Being?

A Being who serves as an Anchor maintains the stability of their universe; they are like the crucial Jenga block that, if removed, would cause the entire tower to collapse.

Although their deaths have severe repercussions, Mr. Paradox elaborates in Deadpool & Wolverine that universes gradually deteriorate until they ultimately fade away.

It takes thousands of years for this process to occur, meaning that an entire world cannot disappear in the blink of an eye (although that is what Mr. Paradox intends to do with the Time Ripper).

Deadpool attempts to substitute the deceased Logan with a different version of Wolverine, traversing through various dimensions and constantly enduring injuries and lacerations in pursuit of his goal.

Mr Paradox argues that it is not as straightforward as it may seem, however, Earth-10005 is ultimately declared to be safe and secure by the conclusion of Deadpool & Wolverine. It is possible that the notorious Wolverine has managed to redeem himself, or perhaps it was Deadpool who fulfilled the role.

Doctor Strange: Earth-616’s Anchor Being?

After Benedict Cumberbatch’s name was added to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Feige stated, “Benedict has transformed this character into an icon, appearing in three out of the top six highest-grossing films of all time.”

“You have always recognized the immense potential of this character, making you the cornerstone of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the sole actor capable of navigating us through the chaos of the Multiverse.”

It’s likely that you believe it’s Tony Stark. This notion is understandable since the Infinity Saga centered around him and the multiverse has been in turmoil since his passing in Endgame.

Spider-Man could also be considered a potential candidate, as he is known as Earth-616’s Chosen One in the Marvel comics (although this idea has not been incorporated into the movies, Anchor Being could potentially be seen as a variation of that concept).

Despite not being certain, my belief is that Doctor Strange is the key player in this situation. In both Infinity War and Endgame, he saw the only possible outcome where the Avengers emerged victorious against Thanos, and it required Stark to make the ultimate sacrifice.

Despite acknowledging his limited knowledge of the multiverse in Spider-Man: No Way Home, he possesses more understanding than the average person. It is highly unlikely that he would knowingly put an entire universe at risk by allowing its Anchor Being to perish.
