Why Baby Reindeer fans think it’s time to stop talking about Fiona Harvey

The discussion over Baby Reindeer has intensified following the Piers Morgan interview, however, some fans believe it is time to move on from discussing Fiona Harvey.

Despite facing backlash, Harvey’s interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored has garnered over 11 million views. Her main objective was to clarify the truth, as she had been portrayed as the “real-life Martha”in Richard Gadd’s Netflix series Baby Reindeer, which is purportedly based on a true story.

Despite its shocking moments, fans have expressed their disapproval of the concept and believe that Harvey should not be referenced at all.

One fan shared their opinion on Reddit, stating that it is unsettling how people continue to attack a woman in desperate need of help. They clarify that they are not a supporter of Fiona and are fully aware of her actions, but believe it is not their responsibility to seek retribution for Gadd or anyone else.

“I understand that it may be a source of amusement for some, but the overuse of ‘Sent from my iPhone’ has become tiresome and the constant influx of memes on social media is overwhelming. I have even resorted to blocking Facebook pages and may have to do the same for Reddit communities.”

“It is time to address how society has completely let down all those involved in this story,”agreed a second individual, commenting on the discussion thread. “The show has exposed the failures of the system in protecting stalking victims and taking action against the perpetrators. It is concerning that the victim is now being invited to nightclubs.”

Earlier this week, Coventry-based nightclub Kasbah made an announcement that Harvey would be making a world-exclusive appearance on 18th May. However, a few hours later, they had to cancel the event due to negative publicity.

Additionally, experts are urging the Baby Reindeer debate to prioritize support for stalking victims, arguing that the current discussion is neglecting crucial aspects.

A third fan commented that discussing Martha and Fiona should be kept separate, as Martha is still a fictional character and should be treated as such. This aligns with Harvey’s statement in an interview where she describes Baby Reindeer as a work of fiction and hyperbole.

Despite the original interview’s continued increase in viewership, it is unlikely that the conversation will fade anytime soon. On air, Harvey revealed his intentions to take legal action against both Gadd and Netflix for defamation, as well as seeking a $1 million payment. It has been reported that he was initially only paid £250 for the now-viral interview.

The uncensored version of The Real Martha can now be viewed on YouTube. For further information on the Netflix show, read on for an explanation of the ending of Baby Reindeer, as well as recommendations for other TV shows and movies to watch and the top series of 2024 thus far.
