Why did Pochita turn into a dog in Chainsaw Man? Explained

At first, it appeared that Chainsaw Man’s Pochita was a combination of a dog and a Devil, devotedly attached to Denji. The two were always together, and with Pochita’s help, Denji managed to hunt and survive against the Devils. However, as the series unfolded, Pochita’s true purpose was unveiled.

Despite his small size, Pochita serves as a prime example of the saying “don’t judge a book by its cover.”Tatsuki Fujimoto’s series features the tiny creature as its main character, but he wasn’t always a diminutive dog. With a chainsaw protruding from the center of his head, it appears that Pochita may in fact be the original Chainsaw Man.

Despite encountering the Four Horsemen and Weapon Devils, he was forced to take on a weaker form. This explains the appearance of Pochita as a dog and all the events surrounding him.

Despite Makima and other Devils withholding a lot of information about Pochita’s past, it is known that he was referred to as the Chainsaw Man in Hell. His powerful ability allowed him to consume devils and erase their existence, preventing them from reincarnating and eradicating the fear they instilled.

As a result, he became a formidable enemy to all Devils and gained the nicknames of “The Most Feared Devil”and “The Savior of Hell”. However, his notoriety also made him a target for various Devils, including powerful figures like Darkness and Death.

Despite numerous attempts to end his life, he continually managed to defy death and rejoin the fight. While some saw his incredible strength as a reason to worship and follow him, certain Devils chose to stay away out of fear.

Feeling threatened and undoubtedly dissatisfied with the situation, the Four Horsemen banded together to confront Pochita. These Horsemen consisted of the Control Devil, Famine Devil, Death Devil, and War Devil, while the Weapon Devils included the Katana Devil, Bomb Devil, Bow Devil, Longsword Devil, Flamethrower Devil, Spear Devil, and Whip Devil.

The intense battle that followed resulted in severe injuries for him, as stated by Makima who noted his transformation into a completely different and almost lifeless form, heavily suggesting his forced transformation into a dog. As the battle reached its climax, Pochita mysteriously disappeared and reappeared on Earth.

While journeying across the land, he stumbled upon Denji, who was grieving at his father’s grave. At first, he treated the boy with hostility, but his injuries eventually caused him to collapse. Touched by Denji’s compassion, he accepted his offer of blood in order to heal himself and in return, they formed a partnership.

As a result, Pochita joined forces with Denji to form a partnership in their pursuit of hunting Devils and cutting wood.
