Despite being an unexpected development, Yook Sungjae of BTOB made a special appearance on the May 10 broadcast of KBS’ music program ‘The Seasons: ZICO’s Artist’. This marked the first time in almost ten years that Yook Sungjae and Block B leader ZICO shared a stage.
During their exchange on the show, ZICO playfully mentioned the lengthy period since their previous meeting, inquiring:
“You realize this is our first time together in eight or nine years?”
Yook Sungjae, with a laugh, replied, “Really? I thought you had been avoiding me for the last eight years!”
Despite BTOB’s efforts to gain popularity, Yook Sungjae shared a captivating story from their past. He disclosed that during this time, ZICO had presented them with a song titled ‘Nice Day’, which the group recorded. Unfortunately, due to the agency’s focus on ballads, the song did not make it onto their album.
Despite Yook Sungjae’s teasing accusation of dodging the issue, ZICO clarified that the reason for including ‘Nice Day’ in Block B’s album was because the song had not been chosen by BTOB.
“I felt it would be best if we Block B release the song because it was left unclaimed,”ZICO explained.
Although there was a small misunderstanding, Yook Sungjae still showed appreciation towards ZICO for the encouragement he received during the recording of ‘Nice Day’. He fondly remembered ZICO’s compliments, which gave him a confidence boost and inspired him to explore new musical genres.
The heartwarming exchange did not stop there. Yook Sungjae expressed his interest in working together with ZICO on his solo endeavors, to which ZICO warmly responded by pledging to write a song for him. The crowd erupted into cheers as the two musicians shook hands, suggesting a potential and exciting music collaboration in the near future.
At the same time, there is a lot of excitement surrounding Zico’s upcoming single, as he teams up with BLACKPINK’s Jennie for a special collaboration to celebrate his 10th solo debut anniversary.
Jennie’s support and their preexisting friendship were crucial factors in her participation. The music industry eagerly awaits Zico’s comeback after a two-year hiatus, where he will also make his debut as the sole MC on a music program. Despite his achievements, Zico has expressed remorse for unintentionally causing inconvenience with his viral dance challenge trend and has taken into consideration the concerns raised by fellow artists such as Sunmi.
