Why does Beast Gohan have red eyes in Dragon Ball? Explored

Despite the fact that the Beast Gohan form was introduced in the Dragon Ball Super movie and manga some time ago, there are still lingering doubts among fans about the form, particularly its appearance.

As clearly depicted in the manga, the Beast form stands apart from all other forms as it does not follow the Super Saiyan or Ultra Instinct/Ego path. Rather, this power-up introduces a brand new form for the Saiyan, one that has never been seen before.

The color of Gohan’s eyes in his Beast form has caused fans to raise questions. Therefore, the reason behind Beast Gohan’s red eyes is being questioned.

It is well known among anime enthusiasts that the Super Saiyan transformation in the Dragon Ball franchise is characterized by unique hair and eye colors. The hair turns yellow, while the eyes take on a greenish-blue hue.

Although future transformations, such as Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue, do not follow the same format, it is clear that both Goku and Vegeta’s hair and eyes take on the same color in these transformations.

Despite the God transformation, it appears that the franchise has returned to its origins with Beast Gohan, as his hair and eyes have changed in color. His hair is now white, while his eyes have become red.

The colors for the new transformation were never explained in the manga. However, it is probable that the red eyes are a result of Gohan’s Saiyan heritage. This is because the new transformation, unlike the Super Saiyan forms which were dependent on S-cells, could be triggered solely by intense anger. Therefore, it is likely that the Beast form adopted the red eyes from the Oozaru transformation.

The design of the eyes is similar to Cumber’s from Super Dragon Ball Heroes, suggesting that Gohan’s new form may be a representation of animalistic strength, portrayed in human form.

One can attribute the connection between the Beast form and rage to the color red, known for its association with power and intensity. This is likely why the form’s creators selected this color to represent its origins. Interestingly, even Gohan’s usually calm mother Chi-Chi has been portrayed with a red aura when enraged. Although these instances were meant for comedic effect, they further solidify the use of red as a visual representation of intense fury and anger.

In addition, Beast Gohan bears a striking resemblance to the Super Saiyan form portrayed in the manga’s limited color pages. These pages depicted Goku with white hair and red eyes, which closely resembles the appearance of the Beast form.

Based on the intense anger displayed by Goku following Krillin’s death, it is likely that the colors white and red were chosen to represent rage. Similarly, Gohan’s transformation into Beast Gohan also featured white hair and red eyes. However, unlike Goku’s rage-induced transformation, Gohan’s was a permanent and significant increase in power.
