Why does the Eye of the Midnight Sun harbor animosity towards the Clover Kingdom in Black Clover? Explained

The Eye of the Midnight Sun, introduced at the beginning of Black Clover, is a formidable group of antagonists. Comprised of some of the series’ most powerful characters, their sole objective is to completely destroy the Clover Kingdom. But what motivates such intense hatred towards the kingdom from the Eye of the Midnight Sun?

The origins of the conflict between the Clover Kingdom and the elves can be traced back to a time when a demon manipulated both sides to turn against each other in Black Clover. This treacherous scheme, orchestrated by the devil, persisted for centuries even after the reincarnation of the elves.

Luckily, the dispute was resolved thanks to the assistance of the knights of the Clover Kingdom.

From the past, we can understand the reason behind the Eye of the Midnight Sun’s hatred towards the Clover Kingdom. This animosity stems from the once strong bond shared between the Clover Kingdom and the elves. In fact, the relationship between them was expected to flourish even further with the planned marriage of Tetia, a royal from the Clover Kingdom, and Licht, the elven leader.

Despite the preparations for the marriage, the events took a dark turn when the royal guards from Clover Kingdom attacked during the ceremony. Tragically, all the elves, including Licht, were killed, and even Tetia, Licht’s beloved, fell victim to the violence. The devastating loss of his loved ones resulted in Licht’s four-leaf clover grimiore being tainted into a five-leaf clover, fueled by his overwhelming negative emotions.

In the opening scenes of the Black Clover anime, the first Wizard King, who is also Tettia’s brother, fought against the giant demon he had transformed into after activating the forbidden spell.

As centuries passed, one of the elves was reborn as Licht and felt compelled to seek revenge against the Clover Kingdom. Thus, he founded the Eye of the Midnight Sun and dedicated the group to the destruction of the Clover Kingdom.

The founder of the Eye of the Midnight Sun was Patolli, an elf from Licht’s era who was reborn as Willian Vangeance five hundred years after the massacre at the wedding. As Willian possessed the same physical appearance as Licht, Patolli saw himself as the leader of the elven community.

After obtaining a personal four-leaf clover grimoire, Patolli felt compelled to seek revenge on the Clover Kingdom by reincarnating the elves. He successfully reincarnated three of the strongest elves into human bodies, forming the antagonist group known as the Eye of the Midnight Sun.

The group’s ultimate goal was to steal all of the magic stones from the Clover Kingdom. In the end, Patolli encountered the current Wizard King, Julius, and potentially killed him.

Despite the elves and Clover Kingdom blaming each other for their suffering, the true culprit behind the wedding massacre was revealed to be a powerful demon known as Zagred.

Prior to the announcement of the wedding ceremony, Zagred had already taken control of a minister from the Clover Kingdom and was making preparations for his plan to steal Licht’s grimoire in the future.

At the wedding ceremony, Zagred employed light magic, much like the Wizard King, causing Licht to wrongly perceive the massacre as an act of disloyalty from the Clover Kingdom.

Following the Wizard King’s victory over Licht, the giant demon, Zagred attempted to seize Licht’s grimoire. However, Secre intervened and imprisoned the devil within the Eternal Prison.

After five centuries, he was finally freed. In the final moments of the Eye of the Midnight Sun, Zagred exposed to Patolli the truth that he had been under the devil’s control all this time.
