Why Emily in Paris Fans Need to Stop Body-Shaming Lily Collins

The initial half of Emily in Paris Season 4 has been released on Netflix, and it has only taken a few hours for negative fan discussions to arise. It is important for us to take a step back and put an end to this discourse.

Despite the abundance of things to be irritated by in Emily in Paris Season 4 (or any of Netflix’s collection of cheesy romantic dramas), the predictable storylines and nonsensical clichés are particularly bothersome.

Despite the fact that new episodes tend to introduce and continue character arcs sporadically, and often get caught up in repetitive storylines (such as Emily’s ongoing love triangle with Alfie and Gabriel), they fail to provide much inspiration. However, it’s not these valid grievances that have disappointed fans – it’s the appearance of Lily Collins.

Similar to Emily, Collins is renowned for her slender figure. Her flawless model physique has likely landed her the opportunity to wear some of the most exquisite French costumes on Netflix. The actress has also openly discussed her past struggles with anorexia and bulimia.

When Collins was offered a role in the 2017 film To The Bone, which also focused on anorexia, she was hesitant to accept. In an interview with Newsbeat, she expressed concerns that the story could bring up painful memories from her past.

She added, “As someone who has personally experienced the challenges of anorexia and bulimia well into my 20s, I am all too familiar with the feelings of struggle, isolation, and shame that accompany this illness.”

Despite her excitement to share her story and the sense of liberation she felt while doing so (as reported by Harpers Bazaar), Lily Collins’ past struggles with an eating disorder should not be brought into her present. Despite this, fans of Emily in Paris have been fixated on Collins’ appearance rather than the show’s content, as evidenced by the most popular threads on the show’s subreddit following the Season 4 launch.

After watching the latest season of Emily in Paris, concerns have been raised about Lily Collins’ health and well-being. A Redditor shared their worries, stating that Collins appeared even thinner and more unhealthy than before. They hoped that she would receive the necessary help for her eating disorder. Another Reddit user expressed how triggering the season was for them, while a third person couldn’t continue watching due to the discomfort it caused.

It is unfortunate that it must be explicitly stated, but it must be said once again – Collins’ physical appearance should not be a topic of discussion. It is degrading and sexist to pour your heart and soul into a project for months, only to have your looks overshadow your hard work, even if the project is not as demanding as a Shakespearean masterpiece.

Similarly, our second Redditor stresses the potential negative impact of unfounded speculation on Collins’ mental well-being. While previous ventures have sparked distressing concerns, these are circumstances beyond her influence. How can one make progress when others hinder their growth?

Despite being outsiders, we cannot accurately determine the truth and therefore, we are not entitled to an explanation. Rather than playing the role of internet critics disguised as concerned individuals, fans of Emily in Paris should appreciate the opportunity to rewatch and enjoy their beloved binge-worthy TV show.

Our plea to you is to stop the body comments as soon as possible, even if they are well-intentioned. It is not beneficial for anyone if they continue to exist.

The first part of Season 4 of Emily in Paris is now available for streaming. Be sure to read about its conclusion, soundtrack, and controversial representation of the Eurovision Song Contest.
