Why Fans Are Upset With Demon Slayer Season 4’s Treatment of One Character

Despite being one of the biggest hits of the year, fans of Demon Slayer Season 4 are expressing dissatisfaction with how the season disregards Kanao’s character.

The Hashira Training Arc is a highly popular season of Demon Slayer, beloved by fans during Spring 2024. In this installment, Tanjiro and his companions undergo intense training with the Hashira in order to confront their ultimate foe, Muzan Kibutsuji.

Despite not featuring the usual intense battles that have made it a fan favorite, Demon Slayer Season 4 continues to be widely adored by viewers, just like its previous seasons. The addition of animation and scenes exclusive to the anime by Ufotable has only increased fans’ love for the show.

Despite this, there is a general dissatisfaction among fans regarding the lack of proper screen time given to Kanao in the series. As the adopted sister and protégé of Insect Hashira Shinobu, she also serves as a love interest for Tanjiro throughout the series. However, their relationship does not come to fruition until the end.

Additionally, Kanao’s significance in the final Demon Slayer arc, the Infinity Castle Arc, cannot be understated. As a result, fans are eagerly anticipating more screen time for her, particularly considering Ufotable’s inclusion of additional scenes for certain characters.

Despite appearing in the Season 4 opening credits, she does not have many moments in the episodes. The only time viewers catch a glimpse of her is during a brief conversation with Shinobu.

Despite being a demon slayer, Kanao is often overlooked in comparison to Tanjiro and his friends. Fans believe that there should have been more scenes of the group training together. However, it should be noted that Kanao completed her training before the others, making her a skilled fighter. Despite this, the anime series could have included more scenes showcasing her abilities.

According to a fan’s comment on Reddit, Kanao has not had any significant development since Season 1 and Infinity Castle, apart from a brief moment with Tanjiro in Season 3. The fan expresses disappointment in how the character has been neglected and hopes for more recognition as part of the squad.

“One person expressed their desire for a new anime-only scene featuring Kanao, but also expressed concern that it may not be possible at this point. Another person also shared their hope for at least one anime-only scene for Kanao.”

With only two episodes remaining in Demon Slayer Season 4, there is still a chance for Kanao to receive more screen time. The season will conclude with special final episodes that have longer runtimes. Don’t miss the last two episodes, available on Crunchyroll.
