“Take deep breaths…Jane the Virgin will no longer be available on Netflix in the near future, causing fans to feel heartbroken. So, what is the reason for its removal from the streaming service?”
Netflix may find it frustrating that some of its most successful titles are ones that they have acquired rather than produced themselves. The Super Mario Bros Movie, for instance, has consistently remained in the top 10 chart on Netflix throughout 2024. Similarly, Suits experienced a resurgence in popularity when it became available on the streaming platform.
Unfortunately, the negative impact of the streaming boom is even greater for viewers. The most frustrating aspect is the lack of consistency on any single platform, as even Netflix has begun selling the rights to its own titles, such as The Power of the Dog.
The latest casualty in the ever-changing world of movies and TV shows is Jane the Virgin. So, what’s the reason behind its departure?
Jane the Virgin (TV Show)
The CW’s deal with Netflix for Jane the Virgin has ended, resulting in the show’s departure from the streaming platform. This allows other streaming services to bid for the rights to the show’s programming.
The partnership between Netflix and the CW has been in place since 2011, guaranteeing the platform exclusive access to completed seasons after they have aired on television. This arrangement has been beneficial for both parties, as shows that did not attract a large viewership on TV were able to gain additional exposure through Netflix.
The main issue to focus on is not Jane the Virgin. Although the CW was involved in the deal, it was primarily between Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery. The latter is seeking to reclaim its other titles for its own streaming platform, Max.
Although Friends already departed from US Netflix in 2020, it is expected to eventually leave other territories such as the UK. The exact timing of its departure is currently unknown.
Despite the bleak outlook, there is still hope for Jane the Virgin’s return to Netflix. The only requirement is for the company to compete for the streaming rights like other providers.
When is it leaving?
According to Netflix, the final day to watch Jane the Virgin is September 5, 2024. After this date, the show will no longer be available on the streaming platform.
This gives you a total of 29 days to binge-watch all five seasons, which is equivalent to 99 episodes of TV. In my opinion, this should be an easy task.
One user expressed their disappointment over the news of Jane the Virgin being removed from Netflix, tweeting, “They’re taking Jane the Virgin off Netflix I should just die.”Another user threatened to cancel their subscription if Netflix followed through with removing the show, writing, “Netflix, if you take Jane the Virgin off, I’m canceling my subscription, you raggedy b*tch.”
“I can’t believe Netflix is removing Jane the Virgin! Who gave them the idea to do this? First Gossip Girl, now this,”a third person tweeted.
The satirical telenovela, created by Jennie Snyder Urman, stars Gina Rodriguez as the main character Jane. Jane is a devoted young woman who becomes pregnant after an accidental artificial insemination.
