Despite both of them facing controversies regarding power abuse, Jennie is receiving a higher amount of backlash compared to Red Velvet Seulgi due to THIS.
Despite their status as two of the biggest third-generation female idols, BLACKPINK’s Jennie and Red Velvet’s Seulgi were recently involved in scandals regarding alleged staff bullying.
Beginning with Jennie, she received criticism from global netizens when she was caught e-smoking indoors. While some may not see vaping as a major issue since she is an adult, internet users expressed frustration over her disregard for her makeup artist who was standing right in front of her.
Following criticism for her “rude”behavior, Jennie’s label, Odd Atelier, released an official statement on her behalf and confirmed that she had already apologized to her staff.
Shortly after, Red Velvet’s Seulgi faced accusations of abusing her power upon arriving at Kaohsiung Airport. Despite this, the female celebrity continued to exude her stunning beauty, effortlessly pulling off her airport fashion and sponsored high heels.
Following that, it was brought to fans’ attention that she swiftly swapped her footwear for sneakers, which were later revealed to be her manager’s upon closer inspection.
The issue of power abuse arose when a video of the manager struggling to walk in high heels while carrying bags on both shoulders went viral.
On July 13, Seulgi took to her Instagram to personally address the issue and even bowed her head while explaining the truth. The idol disclosed that she had developed blisters and cuts from practicing, but as she did not have an extra pair of sneakers, she had no choice but to continue wearing the high heels.
Due to the cuts on her feet, Seulgi was struggling to walk, which her manager noticed. As a solution, they decided to switch shoes before leaving the airport.
Nevertheless, Seulgi remained apologetic towards fans who were let down by the incident and assured them that she would exercise greater caution in the future.
After the two incidents, K-netz cannot help but draw comparisons between the reactions of the idols and the public, which have been polarized following their apologies.
Seulgi’s timely apology on her personal social media account, instead of relying on her agency, effectively resolved the issue. Netizens were able to comprehend the situation easily with her thorough explanation and clear acknowledgement of her errors.
In addition, a K-media also included:
“Seulgi’s reputation for having a good personality was also a plus. Seulgi has many good stories among industry insiders and fans, and is well-known as an idol with a good personality and character.”
Conversely, Jennie faced increased criticism when netizens raised concerns about her failure to address the issue directly and her inability to adequately explain the situation in her label’s statement.
Similarly to Seulgi, Jennie’s reputation has also suffered recently due to the resurfacing of a “bullying”rumor from five years ago, as well as an incident where one of her fans pretended to be a staff member and released a fake post about her smoking.
