Despite fans often considering Kawaki or the God Trees as the primary antagonists in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga, it is important not to overlook the silent antagonist, Momoshiki Otsutsuki. This is a recurring theme in the franchise, as shown in the Naruto anime where viewers were led to believe that Madara Uchiha and the Akatsuki were the main adversaries. In reality, Obito Uchiha was the true mastermind behind their actions.
Although Obito Uchiha was given a chance at redemption in the final arc of Naruto Shippuden, it is highly unlikely that Momoshiki Otsutsuki will receive a similar opportunity in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. This is due to the fact that their stories, while both involving antagonistic roles, differ significantly. Additionally, manga creator Masashi Kishimoto has also hinted at a similar outcome.
Please be advised that the following article contains spoilers from the manga Boruto: Two Blue Vortex.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex: Why Momoshiki won’t receive a redemption like Obito
In order to understand this, it is necessary to delve into Obito Uchiha’s backstory. As many fans may recall, Obito Uchiha was a kind and innocent young boy. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, he suffered severe injuries and was presumed dead by the Hidden Leaf Village. He was then taken in and nursed back to health by Madara Uchiha and Zetsu.
After some time, Zetsu revealed to Obito that Rin Nohara, who had been transformed into the Jinchuriki of Three Tails, Isobu, had been kidnapped by Shinobi from another village. Obito rushed to the scene and saw Rin heading towards Kakashi Hatake, who was about to use his Chidori technique to protect his comrades. Obito, who had strong feelings for Rin, was heartbroken by the situation and mercilessly attacked and killed all of the Shinobi in the area.
After receiving instructions from Madara, Obito Uchiha formed the Akatsuki, a group dedicated to gathering the chakra of the Tailed Beasts in order to summon the Ten Tails. This plan ultimately led to the creation of the Chakra Fruit, which granted its wielder the ability to cast the Infinite Tsukuyomi. This powerful jutsu could render all humans unconscious and allow them to live in a dream world of their own making. Obito’s ultimate goal was to bring an end to all wars and conflicts.
Naruto’s shared dream of becoming a Hokage was the reason behind his eventual redemption. He believed in Naruto’s ability to bring peace to the world and selflessly sacrificed himself to protect him.
Up until this point, the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations or Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga has not provided fans with any emotional background for Momoshiki Otsutsuki. Fans are aware that Momoshiki’s purpose for coming to Earth was to find Kaguya and her God Tree, but with Kaguya’s demise, he shifted his focus to creating a God Tree using Naruto’s Kurama chakra. However, his plans were thwarted when he was defeated by the Shinobi, leading him to implant karma on Boruto in a desperate attempt to ensure his own survival.
Despite fans not being given any hints of Momoshiki’s past that may suggest he has any redeemable qualities in the manga, there is a slim possibility that the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga may introduce such a development. However, it is highly improbable.
It has been previously stated by manga creator Masashi Kishimoto that the future events of Boruto, specifically the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga, will have a darker tone compared to the beginning of the Naruto Next Generations manga. This indicates that there may not be a chance for redemption for a character like Momoshiki.
