Why Muzan’s Hatred for Doma in Demon Slayer Goes Against His Ideals, Explored

Despite being part of the popular manga series Demon Slayer, Kibutsuji Muzan is widely regarded as one of the most detestable characters to ever exist. Readers of the manga hold nothing but hatred towards him, and unlike other villains in many anime series, there are no redeeming moments that display any good qualities in him.

Despite possessing a plethora of detestable qualities, one of Muzan’s most notable flaws is his hypocrisy. Throughout the animanga series, there are numerous instances where Muzan seems to hold a belief, only to later contradict it. One specific example of this is his true feelings towards a certain Upper Moon demon.

One demon in particular stands out among them, and he strongly dislikes this entity as it goes against his beliefs.

Prior to delving into this subject, it is important to establish that Doma is not a likable character in any way. He displays psychopathic tendencies, lacks the ability to understand or express emotions, and despises humanity. He holds no regard for honor and does as he pleases. This description aptly describes Kibutsuji Muzan, which may be seen as quite ironic.

Despite sharing similarities with Muzan, the Demon King does not hold a particular fondness for him. It is unusual since Kibutsuji Muzan highly treasures certain qualities such as loyalty, strength, an insatiable desire to kill humans, willingness to serve him, and above all, competence.

Despite not being a likable character, Doma certainly fulfills all the necessary requirements. As a demon, he is highly skilled and even surpasses Akaza in rank, showcasing his impressive abilities in combat.

Despite his carefree attitude, he remains loyal to Muzan and carries out his orders. As a demon, he has no qualms about killing and consuming humans, with a particular preference for women, much to Akaza’s disapproval.

Despite possessing admirable qualities, Muzan’s dislike for Doma contradicts his own beliefs. The only possible explanation for Muzan’s animosity towards Doma could be his perceived lack of ambition. From a young age, Doma struggled to display emotions in the animanga series. However, his uncommon rainbow-colored eyes ultimately led him to become the leader of a cult.

Despite his father’s endless affairs, it was ultimately his mother who ended up killing him. Shortly after, she took her own life. The son, however, did not feel any remorse or sadness. All he cared about was having his room cleaned before the smell of blood became too strong.

It is evident that Doma lacks emotions and thus, lacks the motivation and ambition shown by Gyutraro and Akaza. This could explain Muzan’s disapproval of Doma. However, openly expressing hatred towards Doma contradicts his beliefs, especially considering the numerous humans he has consumed and the unwavering loyalty he has shown Muzan throughout the series.
