During a recent interview, Rowoon discussed his journey from being an idol to a successful actor. What was the reason behind his departure from SF9?
On April 25, the guest on the YouTube talk show, “Jo Hyun Ah’s Thursday Night“, led by Urban Zakapa singer Jo Hyun Ah, was former SF9 member Rowoon.
On this particular day, the male lead discussed his career as an actor and then shared his true emotions upon departing from SF9 to pursue a new career.
Idol Rowoon’s Thoughts on Transitioning from SF9 Member to Actor
As Jo Hyun Ah asked, Rowoon reminisced about his past acting projects on that particular day.
“Basically, you turned into an actor, right? Was there anyone that made you think that you could transform into an actor?”
The male star candidly responded, discussing his departure from the group.
“There wasn’t a particularly person, but it was just on me. I was confident. I felt that it was fun. I thought about it for a long time. I also knew that there would definitely be risks in the decision. Still, we only have one life, right? I have to take it. I just have to prove it by working harder.”

In September of last year, Rowoon made the announcement that he would be leaving SF9, resulting in the group reorganizing as an 8-member system. FNC Entertainment clarified that although he would still be under the agency, Rowoon would not be participating in promotions with the group as an idol. Instead, he would be focusing on his personal pursuits, including acting.
During the upcoming month, Rowoon first discussed his departure and emphasized his desire to “take his acting career more seriously”and achieve “positive growth.”
Despite this explanation, many fans, particularly FANTASYs, were still dissatisfied as there were numerous idol actors who were fully committed to their roles as actors, while also actively promoting as K-pop idols.
The group’s followers were equally let down as they believed that he had joined SF9 solely to increase his fame and abandoned them for his own selfish agenda.
Despite his withdrawal from the group three months prior, Rowoon faced continued criticism when he appeared on stage with SF9 in a joint concert featuring other FNC artists. Fans accused him of “rubbing salt in their fresh wounds,”further exacerbating their disappointment.
Since that time, the male artist has faced a barrage of hateful comments from his former fans, even stooping to the level of ridiculing his talent and efforts.
Recent Activities of Rowoon
Despite this, Rowoon was able to continue on, thanks to the unwavering support of his fans, FANTASYs.
Following his departure from SF9, his first project, “The Matchmakers,”was a success and received high praise for his improved acting skills.
As a result, he was able to secure another leading role in the upcoming historical drama, “Murky Water,”where he will be starring alongside Shin Ye Eun, who also starred in “The Glory.”
