Why Scarlet Witch’s Absence from the MCU is Justified by Netflix’s Success

Now that *Agatha All Along* has premiered, the inevitable “Where’s Wanda?” inquiries will likely abound. However, it’s important to pay attention to Netflix, which has subtly hinted at why the Scarlet Witch doesn’t require a return right now.

When *WandaVision* debuted on Disney+ in 2021, it felt like a pivotal moment for Marvel movies and TV shows. Its dynamic storytelling and refreshing narrative made it so engaging that fans have been yearning for that same exhilarating experience since its release.

This longing has somewhat been fulfilled with the spinoff series *Agatha All Along*. The unexpected fan-favorite antagonist from *WandaVision* is now embarking on her own journey, joined by a plethora of new characters. Yet, one prominent witch remains absent… the Scarlet Witch.

As expected, Wanda has not made an appearance in the new superhero series thus far—and if we’re being candid, her absence may not be detrimental. While there may be calls for Elizabeth Olsen to return as Wanda Maximoff, these might be unnecessary.

Kathryn Hahn shines alongside her new coven—let’s not forget the brilliant Patti LuPone!—but there’s another compelling reason. Olsen has delivered one of the finest performances of her career in Netflix’s heart-wrenching *His Three Daughters*, showcasing her impressive range and talent.

“I’m so glad you recognize that what [Elizabeth] is doing with Christina is so difficult,” said director Jacobs. “It feels like she’s a character that could be floating so far away, or be a caricature.”

“All of that nuance is crafted through Lizzy’s incredible skill. She integrates these elements subtly and meticulously, yet it feels spontaneous.”

In her role as Christina, who finds herself caught between her siblings, she attempts to serve as the peacekeeper while her sisters grapple with their family dynamics. As she quietly navigates personal challenges and the grief of her father’s impending passing, Christina is depicted as a fragile figure, poised to break.

Jacobs continues: “She’s absolutely one of the best actresses I’ve ever had the privilege to work with… when I first worked with her, I was unaware of the magnitude of her talent and capability.”

Is there still a future for the Scarlet Witch in the wider MCU? Definitely. Following her “death” in *Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness*, it’s evident that there are more variants of her story to explore. Furthermore, Agatha is clearly dissatisfied with her treatment in *WandaVision*.

Does she need to return anytime soon to resolve loose ends? Absolutely not.

As many fans recognize, Marvel is currently experiencing one of its most challenging periods, despite the success of *Deadpool & Wolverine*. As they venture into Phase 6, the franchise needs to recalibrate—and that does not involve resurrecting supposedly deceased characters (ahem, apologies to RDJ).

Regardless of public sentiment, it’s quite likely that the Scarlet Witch will eventually reappear on screen. However, it’s preferable that this happens later rather than sooner. In the interim, Olsen continues to have much to offer.

*His Three Daughters* is currently streaming on Netflix, while *Agatha All Along* continues on Disney+.
