Why Stefon Diggs makes the Houston Texans a Super Bowl contender

The Texans have made a major move by acquiring Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs in a blockbuster trade. As a result, their status as a Super Bowl contender has been solidified.

Adam Schefter of ESPN caused a stir in the NFL community when he revealed a possible game-changing trade between the Texans and Bills.

Stefon Diggs, a previous All-Pro receiver, will be heading to Houston as Buffalo traded him in exchange for a second-round pick in the year 2025.

Diggs will join forces with a rising Texans team, guided by current Offensive Rookie of the Year C.J. Stroud and promising head coach DeMeco Ryans.

Having successfully developed Josh Allen into one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL, Diggs now aims to support Stroud, who is already recognized as one of the best quarterbacks in the league, in a similar manner.

In his first year as starting quarterback, Stroud led the franchise back to its previous postseason success. The team achieved a dominant victory over the Browns in their playoff matchup.

Diggs becomes the latest addition to Houston’s already talented offensive lineup, joining forces with 2023 breakout stars Nico Collins and Tank Dell. Together, the trio of Diggs, Collins, and Dell possesses unparalleled potential and could potentially dominate the league.

Additionally, the Texans acquired running back Joe Mixon through a trade and also secured the return of star tight end Dalton Schultz. This guarantees that Stroud will have an abundance of weapons at his disposal in the upcoming season.

Despite already having an All-Pro talent in Laremy Tunsil as their starting left tackle, the Houston Texans’ advantage is further enhanced by the presence of quality starting linemen such as Shaq Mason, Tytus Howard, and Kenyon Green.

The defense takes pride in up-and-coming talents Will Anderson and Derek Stingley. Additionally, it’s important to acknowledge the recent acquisition of Danielle Hunter, who recorded an impressive 16.5 sacks in the previous season.

Since assuming control in 2021, Nick Caserio has made significant strides in improving the team’s roster. As the Texans’ general manager, he was given the responsibility of moving on from the Deshaun Watson era and starting fresh.

The AFC South saw improvements as the Titans and Jaguars made some strategic moves, while the Colts have high hopes for a healthy Anthony Richardson to lead them back to the playoffs.

Despite the Diggs trade and other offseason moves, it is clear that the divisional power still lies with Houston for the foreseeable future. The current AFC South champions show no signs of slowing down.

According to CBS Sports analyst Bryant McFadden, the Houston Texans are the second-best team in the AFC, with the exception of the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs.

According to McFadden, the addition of Diggs could be the missing element for Houston. The team has established itself as a legitimate contender for the Super Bowl in the highly competitive AFC.
