According to Sports Kyunghyang journalist Kim Hajin, the invitation extended to the celebrity was not without its own backstory. Typically, celebrities are hesitant to attend regional games due to the time commitment and lack of financial benefit. However, Lotte Liquor made sure to include the option for Karina to throw the first pitch as part of their contract for the ‘Crush’ beer commercial.
He explained, “KT Wiz had reached out to Karina, who is known as ‘Suwon’s daughter,’ and her agency SM was already aware. Therefore, when the contract with Lotte was officially settled, SM apologized to KT Wiz, stating that their hands were tied due to the contract.”
Kim explained that the payment for the Crush advertisement was too large to ignore, leaving her with no option but to go and throw the first pitch.
When asked by Munhwa Ilbo journalist Jung Seyoung if he meant in the tens of billions, Kim clarified, “Slightly less than that.”
On the 9th, Karina stepped onto the mound donning a light blue uniform. She shared her emotions, stating, “I am privileged to have the opportunity to throw the first pitch for the first time ever.”
Karina expressed her dedication, stating, “I am wholeheartedly committed to throwing the ball in support of the Lotte Giants. Please continue to shower aespa with your love.”
Karina impressed the audience with her successful strike pitch and received cheers.
