Yoriichi Tsukiguni, a legendary swordsman, was born with the Mark and was known for nearly defeating Muzan single-handedly. This is a common trope in shonen titles, where the current protagonist is often connected to a renowned figure from the past. In this instance, there is a slight similarity in appearance between Yoriichi and Tanjiro.
Despite the perfect opportunity to give Tanjiro the Mark since birth, it did not happen. This begs the question, why was he not born with it? The reason being that Tanjiro is a unique protagonist who will not solely defeat Muzan. This ties into the themes explored in the anime, which deviate from the usual trends seen in popular Shonen titles.
Despite being a shonen title, Tanjiro is not depicted as being able to defeat all major villains on his own. A major theme in this series is the power of teamwork, which is evident throughout the story. Tanjiro does not defeat a single Upper Moon demon by himself.

If the author had bestowed the Mark upon him since birth, he would have followed in Yoriichi’s footsteps and defeated all demons on his own. This overused formula has been seen too many times. The series feels refreshing as it showcases demon hunters who fall short and rely on each other for help.
There is a constant feeling of peril and high stakes throughout the animanga series, which may be the reason why Tanjiro Kamado was not born with the Mark. This would have overshadowed the show’s important theme of teamwork if it had been the case.
