Why True Crime Fans Are Skipping This Episode of Unsolved Mysteries

Despite Unsolved Mysteries Season 4 quickly rising to the top of the Netflix chart, there is one episode that seems to be overlooked by viewers at home.

Despite the excitement surrounding Netflix’s Unsolved Mysteries reboot, fans were disappointed to learn that the trailer revealed only five episodes for the latest season.

In comparison, the first two seasons consisted of six episodes each, while the third installment included a total of nine episodes.

Despite being available on the streaming service since July 31, true crime enthusiasts have expressed that they’re choosing to skip Episode 1 due to its focus on Jack the Ripper, which has been extensively covered in the past.

With the vast amount of literature, documentaries, TV shows, and films dedicated to the unidentified London serial killer, the decision to feature the case in the latest installment of Unsolved Mysteries has been called into doubt.

Similarly, the fifth episode, ‘The Mothman Revisited’, also contains a plethora of information about the legendary creature it is named after.

Commenting on Reddit, one individual expressed their disappointment with the limited number of episodes in the series, stating that two of them revolve around well-known mysteries such as Jack the Ripper and Mothman. They would have preferred to see a topic that has not been extensively covered in the media.

“Another individual shared, “I was taken aback by the absence of an alien episode that I could skip, but now there are two episodes instead.”A third person chimed in, “Seriously, with all the events happening in the world, they choose to use episodes like this.”

One viewer wrote, “Thank you! Why?! Jack the Ripper? That happened 150 years ago and no one seems to care anymore. This season was disappointingly short and felt like a complete waste of time. I was hoping they wouldn’t focus on alien/UFO sightings, but instead we got stuck with Mothman nonsense.”

According to another individual, “I am biased because Mothman is my favorite cryptid, but I still enjoyed the episode. I have always been drawn to paranormal cases.”

“However, I chose to skip the Jack the Ripper episode altogether. If a true crime story is going to be covered, it should at least be one that can be solved.”

Another person chimed in, saying, “I’m the same! I also skipped the Jack the Ripper episode. The second volume is definitely the best for me.”

Apart from Jack the Ripper and Mothman, Unsolved Mysteries Season 4 delves into several other intriguing cases.

Out of all the episodes, the one that is the most unsettling is Episode 2, ‘Body in the Basement’, which investigates the mysterious death of Amanda Antoni in 2015, when her body was discovered in her own basement.

The death of Amanda Antoni has continued to perplex law enforcement

Despite detectives describing it as the most violent scene they had ever come across, there was no DNA evidence and the suspect, who happened to be her husband, had an indisputable alibi.

Moreover, it has been announced that Netflix has renewed Unsolved Mysteries for its fifth season, which will comprise of four episodes and will premiere in October 2024.

Despite not having a set date, co-creator Terry Dunn Meurer informed Variety that they will be released in time for Halloween.

Despite not revealing the specific cases they will prioritize, she did mention one in particular that she is eagerly anticipating.

“She informed the outlet that it is the most perplexing mystery she has ever encountered, and that is all she can reveal at this time!”
