Vyse has been around for a few weeks, and many Valorant players are utilizing her as a Sentinel, which is not the ideal approach.
As a hybrid agent categorized within the Sentinel class, Vyse possesses abilities that can also function effectively as an Initiator. Despite this, the broader Valorant community has been treating her like Cypher and Killjoy, setting up her abilities on spike sites and waiting for adversaries to push in.
Educational Valorant social media accounts have promoted this style of play, sharing Vyse setup guides aimed at stopping enemy advances or trapping opponents in her barbed wire.
Although Vyse has formidable trapping abilities through her Razorvine, Shear, and Arc Rose abilities, players should leverage her utilities to contest and seize space rather than merely protect it.
Multiple Valorant coaches have emphasized that Vyse thrives in “intermediate spaces” and does not need to adopt a conservative playstyle.
“If we see her in like January being played like an anchor, then I think she’s broken because that’s not what she is supposed to be for. She is supposed to be for trapping the intermediate space before the site,” said Jacob ‘mini’ Harris, the former head coach of Fnatic, on Plat Chat.
Both mini and former Team Liquid head coach Connor ‘Sliggy’ Blomfield mentioned on a Valorant podcast that they expect the agent to shine in professional play, though her performance in ranked matches is currently average. They suggested that Vyse might take the place of flash initiators in various team compositions and synergize well with another Sentinel.
Additionally, they indicated that Vyse is most effective controlling the neutral areas of maps following the drop of spawn walls, especially on smaller maps.
Her ability Arc Rose features a deceptive flash that regenerates quickly after use.
“The fact that you can peek with your gun out, it is pretty strong,” Sliggy remarked.
Despite her strong points, Vyse still faces challenges when it comes to attacking, as her utility is not particularly suited for incursion into enemy territory. Players utilizing her to hinder enemy attacks after planting are undoubtedly on the right path.
Employing a passive defense strategy remains a viable option for playing Vyse, with ranked players leveraging her as a typical Sentinel achieving a respectable win rate of 49.3% across all ranks. However, this percentage could improve if players were to adopt a more proactive approach akin to that of an Initiator.
To fully capitalize on Vyse’s kit and her unique position in the meta, players are encouraged to advance on the defense and assert control over the space instead.
