Why Yuji Itadori may never be the among the strongest Jujutsu Kaisen characters

Why Yuji Itadori may never be the among the strongest Jujutsu Kaisen characters

Despite his impressive accomplishments in battles against Sukuna, the most recent chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen has revealed that Yuji Itadori may never rank among the top five characters.

It has been a year since the Jujutsu Kaisen finale battle against Sukuna commenced. From Gojo to various other characters, many have engaged in battle against the embodiment of disaster, ultimately suffering defeat. Despite the efforts of the most skilled sorcerers, Sukuna remains undefeated.

Despite the chaos that erupted in the fandom after Satoru Gojo’s sudden death, it was merely the beginning of a bigger revelation. It was later revealed that Sukuna had been restraining his full power and had yet to unleash it, despite the implication in the manga that he had already won.

After Gojo’s death, Sukuna manifested in his true form. Despite this, the ongoing battle continues as Gege unveils the sorcerer’s intentions during the time skip. Despite Yuji being crucial to their plan, he does not rank among the top five characters in Jujutsu Kaisen. Warning: This article contains spoilers from the manga!

Yuji Itadori didn’t earn his powers like others in Jujutsu Kaisen

It was originally believed that Yuji Itadori possessed an exceptional ability, a unique opportunity to serve as the host for the powerful King of Curses. However, Chapter 257 revealed that Yuji Itadori’s father, Jin Itadori, was actually the manifestation of Sukuna’s twin. While still in their mother’s womb, Sukuna consumed his twin in order to survive.

Despite this, Kenjaku discovers that Jin Itadori is the reincarnation of the twin’s soul and has a child with him, utilizing Kaori Itadori’s body. In fact, Kenjaku goes as far as orchestrating Yuji’s birth with a cursed finger inside of him, which remained sealed and dormant until the Culling Games. However, it ultimately played a pivotal role in Yuji becoming the vessel for Sukuna when he accidentally swallowed a finger in Chapter 1.

Therefore, it was Megumi who had the rare opportunity of becoming Sukuna’s vessel. He possessed the ability to control the King of Curses and Chapter 258 later revealed that Yuji’s powers were a result of others continually switching souls with him.

Yuji had internalized Sukuna’s techniques as muscle memory, allowing him to easily learn other techniques like Simple Domain by swapping souls. In addition, he consumed the remaining Death Paintings before the final battle.

It has been suggested in the story that the others also used this method to acquire new techniques. However, each member, including Miwa, had their own unique techniques and dedicated a significant amount of time to training. Despite the time constraints, Yuji stands out as the only one who did not train and instead relied on the efforts of others. This ultimately means that his powers were not earned through his own hard work.

Despite being in its final stretch, the manga still requires everyone’s assistance in order for Yuji to successfully strike Sukuna. Higuruma made a selfless sacrifice, enabling Yuji to wield his Executioner’s Sword. Additionally, Yuta inflicted significant damage on Sukuna, taking advantage of the fact that Sukuna was unable to utilize the Reverse Cursed Technique due to his previous battle with Gojo.

When Yuta cut Sukuna’s tongue, he made sure that he could no longer cast spells. Additionally, he bravely endured the strongest attack that currently no one in Jujutsu Kaisen could withstand. This was all done in order to pave the way for Yuji and Maki. Maki cleverly snuck up behind Sukuna and used her soul-splitting Katana to stab his heart. Meanwhile, Yuji continued to weaken the barrier between Sukuna’s and Megumi’s souls.

Once again, Choso, Maki, and Ino suffered heavy injuries in order for Yuji to successfully execute multiple Black Flashes against Sukuna. Despite the damage, the attacks proved to be effective as they prevented Sukuna from regaining his Reverse Cursed Technique output. However, Sukuna is a cunning opponent who has the ability to manipulate any situation to his advantage. He continuously utilizes Binding Vows to gain the upper hand in the battle, showcasing his ingenuity.

Despite Yuji’s increased power, he still lags behind Sukuna, Gojo, Yuta, Kenjaku, Kashimo, and even Hakari. While he may have a chance against Maki, it’s uncertain if he could defeat her. Maki possesses superior physical strength compared to him, and Yuji’s cursed technique output is relatively weak.

Despite the assumption that this fight is the ultimate showdown, it is unlikely that even an awakened Yuji could defeat the top-tier Jujutsu Kaisen characters. However, the story continues and there is a possibility that Yuji may possess the ability to use the Divine Flame and Malevolent Shrine, although he may utilize them differently than Sukuna due to his lower output. It remains uncertain if he has inherited Kaori Itadori’s innate technique, the Antigravity System.

Gege Akutami’s Unique Approach to Yuji Itadori as a Protagonist

Despite not being one of the strongest characters, Yuji is undoubtedly one of the top MCs in the new generation. Jujutsu Kaisen’s creator, Gege Akutami, has taken a distinctive approach to the main character, who lacks natural ability and does not devote extensive time to training.

Similarly to Deku from My Hero Academia and Asta from Black Clover, Yuji’s abilities were not innate and he had to work hard to become stronger through training. While he did put in some effort himself, it cannot be compared to the efforts of others. However, this is not necessarily a negative aspect.

At the age of 15, he does not have to bear the weight of responsibility alone, which is why he is supported by those who have faith in him. He is not motivated by the thrill of battle, but rather by his desire to fulfill his duty and do whatever it takes to rescue others. This also fulfills his grandfather’s final wish, as Yuji is surrounded by individuals who are willing to defend him and vice versa.
