Baldur’s Gate 3 was a sensation in the gaming world in 2023, and has continued to be a sensation ever since. Fans are already wondering if the game will have DLC.
Since its launch, Baldur’s Gate 3 has become one of the flagship games of 2023. It has set records on Steam for its high number of players, reflecting its overall success.
With the full release, players can now experience this massive RPG in all its glory. And players are wondering whether or not the game will have DLC, because, after all, given its D&D roots, there are always more stories to tell.
Here’s what we know about possible DLC for Baldur’s Gate 3.
Is a DLC for Baldur’s Gate 3 in the works?
In an interview with PC Gamer, Larian Studios CEO and founder Swen Vickne confirmed that the team is not currently working on a DLC expansion.
However, that doesn’t mean the team is completely opposed to the idea. It’s just that it’s not going to happen anytime soon. As specified in an interview with IGN at Gamescom 2023, the developers “want to do more” with the game, but not right away.
In the near future, the priority is to “fix things for now” before developers take a collective “vacation” after years of hard work. Upon their return, Larian Studios will then determine the next course of action. Whether it’s a full sequel, a major expansion, or something in between. It is, however, important to note the complexities of adding additional content to the current game.
According to Vickne, increasing Baldur’s Gate 3‘s level cap from 12 to the DnD standard of 20 would present a set of design challenges, “which would make it much more than an expansion in terms of development.”
