Will Ferrell fans who are seeking a emotionally charged documentary will be pleased to know that the comedian’s latest project has received a significant amount of critical acclaim.
Despite only just receiving its first trailer from Netflix, the highly anticipated documentary Will & Harper has already garnered significant attention. The film initially debuted to critical acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival and is now gearing up for its release on Netflix.
The documentary tracks the journey of Will Ferrell and his close friend and writer, Harper Steele, as they embark on a road trip. This is particularly meaningful as it also portrays Steele’s personal story of coming out.
Steele is an established writer who has worked on beloved children’s shows such as Doug and Welcome Freshman, as well as more obscure projects like The Spoils of Babylon and A Deadly Adoption. Steele has been a writer for Ferrell since she joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in 1995, and the two formed a strong friendship.
During the worldwide lockdown, Steele revealed to Ferrell that she was a trans woman. The recently released film follows their reunion after Steele’s transition as they embark on a road trip, stopping to visit mutual acquaintances in the industry and introducing Steele to the community.
Currently, the film is being highly praised. At the time of writing, the Rotten Tomatoes score remains at a perfect 100% on the Tomatometer with 21 reviews.
The heartfelt approach of Will & Harper to the subject matter has been highly praised by reviewers. The different reviews describe it as “emotionally impactful”and “charged with a sense of vulnerability,”with many also noting its blend of emotions and humor.
The documentary is the most recent addition to Ferrell’s busy year, which has also included his appearance on The Boys and his voiceover work for Despicable Me 4.
“The highly anticipated show, Will & Harper, will be available for streaming on Netflix starting September 27.”
You can also anticipate and get excited for upcoming shows in the near future such as Virgin River Season 6, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, and Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2.
