Will Grand Theft Auto 6 Release on PS4 and Xbox One? Important Information for Last-Gen Gamers

Grand Theft Auto 6 stands as one of the most eagerly awaited video games in history. However, players still using last-generation consoles such as the PS4 and Xbox One harbor legitimate concerns about being excluded from this highly anticipated title.

Since the debut of GTA 5 on the PS3 and Xbox 360 thirteen years ago, Rockstar has updated the game for two additional console generations. The PS4 and Xbox One versions were released in 2014, followed by a remastered edition for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2022.

With GTA 6 set to be Rockstar’s most expansive and ambitious endeavor yet, it’s understandable that those gaming on older consoles are worried about the capability of their hardware to accommodate the vast landscapes and features that the new game promises.

Will GTA 6 be available on PS4 & Xbox One?

GTA 6 will not be available on PS4 and Xbox One. Rockstar has confirmed that this upcoming title will be exclusively launched on the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X, slated for release in 2025.

Why won’t it be available on older consoles?

To put it simply, Grand Theft Auto 6’s scale and graphical demands are beyond the limits of the Xbox One and PS4. Take the in-game map, for example: the San Andreas map in GTA 5 covers 29.2 square miles, but according to various leaks, the new version of Vice City in GTA 6 will feature an expansive 48.2 square miles—nearly twice the size of its predecessor.

Additionally, the graphics showcased in the trailer blur the lines between reality and gameplay. It’s evident that a powerful system will be essential for an optimal gaming experience, and hardware that has been around for 11 years simply won’t suffice.

In fact, users of the PS4 and Xbox One have already encountered difficulties running GTA 5, making the thought of upgrading to the next game unrealistic. Attempting to access GTA Online on these older systems leads to prolonged loading times as they struggle with the data demands. Rockstar has even removed key features like the Rockstar Editor to enhance performance.

Considering all these factors, it’s quite apparent why GTA 6 isn’t making its way to the PS4 and Xbox One, even though it’s unfortunate that these consoles will be left behind.

Which platforms will GTA 6 be released on?

Currently, Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for release exclusively on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

A PC edition of the game will not be available at launch, so if you’re eager to dive into GTA 6 on release day, your choices will be limited to the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
