Will HyunA’s Career Be Affected by Her Marriage to Yong Jun-hyung?

As her October wedding with singer Yong Jun-hyung approaches, HyunA continues to be in the spotlight both professionally and personally. There are concerns about the potential impact on her successful solo career, especially with Yong Jun-hyung still facing scrutiny for his involvement in the Burning Sun scandal.

HyunA made her relationship with Yong Jun-hyung public in January through social media, which caused a mixed response from both fans and the public. Later on July 8, she announced that they would be getting married in October. According to her agency, At Area, the couple had promised to support each other during tough times and had decided to tie the knot. The wedding ceremony, which will be a private outdoor event, is scheduled for October 11 at Samcheonggak in Seoul. Yong Jun-hyung’s agency, Blackmade, also confirmed the news, adding that only close relatives and friends would be present at the ceremony.

Even though they have an open relationship, the announcement of their marriage has sparked a lot of controversy. HyunA’s relationship with Yong Jun-hyung is still met with opposition, especially after his admission in 2019 of watching illicit videos shared by singer Jung Joon-young, resulting in his departure from his group. The news of their marriage has only added fuel to the fire, leading to even more negative reactions.

On the 19th, a ticket sales agency announced that HyunA’s solo North American concert tour, scheduled for August in Dallas, Houston, New York, Toronto, Chicago, LA, and Seattle, has been canceled amidst ongoing events. HyunA had previously announced the ‘HyunA – My Attitude Tour 2024 in North America with GroovyRoom & MIRANI’ on her official YouTube channel, but all related posts and videos have now been removed.

A foreign media source proposed that insufficient ticket sales were the cause for the event’s cancellation. It is not unusual for concerts in other countries to be called off due to low ticket sales. However, there are rumors that the news of her marriage to Yong Jun-hyung could have influenced the number of tickets sold.

The documentary “Burning Sun: The Story of Women Who Exposed K-pop Stars’ Secret Chatrooms”was released by BBC News Korea in May, bringing attention to the Burning Sun scandal and raising global awareness. This could potentially have had an impact on the sales of HyunA’s concert.

Moreover, HyunA has recently removed any evidence of her former relationship with singer DAWN from her social media accounts. The couple had confirmed their relationship in 2018 and had been together for six years. Although DAWN proposed in 2022, they separated in November of the same year. Despite initially agreeing to keep each other’s photos on their social media, both eventually deleted them after HyunA announced her upcoming marriage to Yong Jun-hyung. DAWN deleted her photos a week after the announcement, and on the 19th, HyunA also erased all traces of DAWN from her social media.
