Will Tanjiro’s Rank Change in Demon Slayer Season 4? Explained

The current season of Demon Slayer is well underway, featuring the first stage of the Hashira Training in its latest episode. Tengen Uzui is leading the training, focusing on the fundamentals of endurance, strength, and speed. In the recent episode, Tanjiro Kamado was given a significant amount of screen time and it was evident that he excelled compared to the other demon hunters.

Numerous intriguing character interactions took place in the episode. The remaining demon hunters were taken aback by the fact that he was able to stand his ground against a former Hashira, a feat that only a handful of individuals can accomplish.

Despite sparking an intriguing debate among fans, the question remains: Will Tanjiro ever attain the status of a Hashira? It can be confirmed that Tanjiro will not achieve this rank by the end of both Demon Slayer season 4 and the manga series. The reasoning behind this lies within the final arc of the manga, as it becomes clear that Tanjiro’s journey will never lead him to becoming a Hashira.

Please be advised that this article contains major spoilers from the manga chapters.

Does Tanjiro Fail to Become a Hashira in Demon Slayer Season 4?

Despite being an exceptional swordsman, Tanjiro Kamado does not attain the rank of Hashira in the Demon Slayer series. Nevertheless, he plays a crucial role in inspiring other demon hunters to awaken their Demon Slayer Marks. Additionally, he holds the unique ability to use the Sun Breathing Technique, a technique created by Yoriichi Tsukiguni with the specific purpose of defeating Kibutsuji Muzan.

In season 4 of Demon Slayer, Tanjiro undergoes intensive training in order to increase his strength. However, the anime will not delve into any major accomplishments during this season.

Despite that, Tanjiro played a crucial role in the ultimate defeat of Muzan in the manga. He tapped into the memories of his ancestor, Sumiyoshi Kamado, and successfully mimicked the Sun Breathing Techniques. Furthermore, he identified and rectified minor imperfections, greatly enhancing the efficiency of the technique.

Upon evaluating Tanjiro’s accomplishments, it becomes evident that his abilities are on par with those of the current Hashiras. His involvement in the defeat of Akaza, the Upper Moon 3 demon, and his brave confrontation with the Demon King further solidify his standing. It would make logical sense for Tanjiro to be considered a Hashira based on these achievements. However, this was not the case, and the reason for this is quite straightforward.

The Demon Slayer Corps had successfully accomplished their mission to defeat Kibutsuji Muzan, but at a great cost. Many skilled demon hunters, such as Gyomei and Muichiro, lost their lives in the process. Despite their achievement, the Ubuyashiki family made the decision to disband the organization. Sanemi and Giyu were called for a meeting and were informed of the Corps’ disbandment by the Ubuyashiki family.

Therefore, due to the disbandment of the organization after Muzan’s defeat and the lack of need for demon hunters or Hashiras, Tanjiro did not attain the prestigious title of a Hashira in the series despite fighting alongside his comrades and successfully defeating Muzan.
