Wind Breaker sends Twitter into overdrive as the “next Tokyo Revengers”

Currently, the anime and manga community is abuzz with conversations about Wind Breaker and Tokyo Revengers. The latter, a completed manga series, gained popularity for its unique storyline involving biker gangs and time travel. Although the execution of the manga could have been improved, it still garnered a large fanbase during its publication.

The Wind Breaker anime premiered on April 5, 2024, receiving positive feedback from many viewers. While it shared similarities with the popular Tokyo Revengers series, the new anime stood out for its refined execution in various aspects.

As a result, fans resorted to using social media platforms such as X, with some even comparing the series to “Tokyo Revengers.”

Upon viewing, it becomes apparent that there is a striking resemblance between the characters of the two animanga titles. This is due to their focus on delinquents, resulting in similarly designed characters. As a result, the exaggerated hairstyles and hair color stand out as the most prominent shared elements between the shows.

Additionally, the main focus of both titles is on violence and physical altercations. The story revolves around delinquents engaging in fights for various motives. Takemichi, the protagonist, was a timid individual who faced his fears and fought against delinquents in order to protect his beloved. Similarly, in the recently aired anime series, Sakura Haruka, the main character, desires to prove his strength by climbing to the top through combat.

Shortly after the debut of Wind Breaker, fans noticed these similarities and chose to express their opinions on these shows.

The impact of Tokyo Revengers’ similarities to Wind Breaker on fans

“I hope this season’s new anime will be better than Tokyo revengers,” a netizen said.

From these responses, it is evident that the majority of viewers of the first episode have noticed a strong resemblance to the anime adaptation of Tokyo Revengers by Ken Wakui.

It is worth noting that the new anime series appears to be more promising. The fight scenes have improved and the straightforward premise allows fans to easily appreciate it.

Despite only one episode of the new series being released at the time of writing, it is premature to determine which show is superior. However, it seems that not all fans hold this view.

“Wind Breaker – This is what if you take Takemichi from Tokyo Revengers and minus the crybaby side of him, minus the time travel, and take the main gang and turn them into neighborhood heroes. Definitely my favorite of the new season so far,” said another.

“It’s only been a single episode but Wind Breaker clears Tokyo revengers,” a netizen said.

These reactions demonstrate that the new anime series is significantly more enjoyable than the content of Ken Wakui’s original title. One fan specifically pointed out the unique elements, or lack thereof, that set Wind Breaker apart.
