The Korea Herald reports that the drama “Wise Resident Life,” originally slated to air in the latter half of this year, has been removed from the broadcast schedule as production teams revise their timelines due to an ongoing healthcare workers’ strike.
“Wise Resident Life,” which was intended to follow “Queen of Tears” on tvN in May, has faced significant hurdles as the medical strike persists, leading to growing public frustration and complications in proceeding with the show’s broadcast this year.
On September 14th, the production team announced that the schedule remains in flux, with final decisions yet to be made.
Starring Go Yoon-jung, who gained fame from last year’s Disney+ original series “Moving” , this series is a spin-off of “Hospital Playlist.” It explores the lives of doctors and medical staff committed to patient care and the complexities of hospital life.
The ongoing medical strike has had a profound effect on drama production. In addition to delaying filming, the strike has created serious challenges throughout the medical sector, forcing many hospitals to suspend critical services, which has heightened patient dissatisfaction and concern. Prime Minister Han Duck-soo remarked on the medical crisis, acknowledging the government’s partial responsibility but emphasizing that the primary accountability lies with the medical residents. He noted that there is no precedent globally for doctors abandoning critical patients to go on strike.
