In 2025, thanks to its new deal with Wizards of the Coast, Dark Horse will release a series of comics, graphic novels, and art books for D&D and Magic: The Gathering.

The 50th anniversary of Dungeons & Dragons will be celebrated in 2024, and Wizards of the Coast has dedicated the entire year to honoring this milestone. At SDCC 2024, fans were delighted with additional thrilling updates, as Wizards of the Coast announced a partnership with Dark Horse for a range of art books, comics, and other content for both D&D and Magic: The Gathering.

The licensed publishing line is set to broaden the universes of both properties with brand new stories presented in the form of comic series and graphic novels. The respective companies have not yet disclosed the names of the writers and artists who will be involved in the creative process.

The exact number of books that will be included in the lineup is unknown at this time. Despite the lack of specific details, Dark Horse intends to release its initial series in Summer 2025.

During an announcement, Jackie Jones, Vice President of Creative at MTG, hinted that the upcoming series will showcase grand, high-stakes narratives set in the visually magnificent and diverse world of Magic. These stories will be told through the perspectives of our most iconic, intricate, and captivating heroes and anti-heroes.

Jess Lanzillo, D&D’s VP of Franchise and Product, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming comics, stating that the vast, imaginative realms and 50 years of thrilling adventure in the D&D universe will serve as the perfect canvas for the collaboration. She believes that this partnership marks the beginning of something truly special.

Dark Horse and Wizards of the Coast have a history of collaboration, with their partnership dating back to the late 1990s when they jointly produced the Gerrard’s Quest tie-in comics for Magic: The Gathering.

In November 2020, Dark Horse and IDW released a miniseries that merged the universes of D&D and Stranger Things, spanning four issues.
