Wolfie Rescue Guide – Best Friends Chapter in Until Dawn Remake

Until Dawn is renowned for its gripping life-or-death scenarios, where every choice carries weight and survival is uncertain. In the recently released remake of the game, one pivotal moment invites a character to bond with a loyal wolf or risk losing him forever.

As Mike journeys into the ominous Blackwood Sanatorium to find his girlfriend, Jessica, he unexpectedly encounters a wolf. This interaction showcases the butterfly effect, influencing the game’s outcome significantly.

To ensure Wolfie’s survival in the Until Dawn Remake, players need to befriend the wolf in the chapel during Chapter Five. Then, in Chapter Nine, successfully execute Quick-Time Events (QTEs) while Mike is pursued by Wendigos to prevent Wolfie from sacrificing himself. If Wolfie makes it through this chapter alive, Mike will earn the “The Skillful Wolf Man” achievement after defeating the Sanatorium.

A. Chapter Five Encounter

During Chapter Five of the Until Dawn Remake, Mike’s exploration of the Sanatorium leads to a surprising meeting with one of the wolves he had previously seen with a mysterious stranger.

  • The wolf initially displays hostility, growling and snapping at Mike, leaving him with a split-second decision: kick the wolf or remain passive. It’s clear which option is preferable.
  • As the countdown nears its end, Wolfie calms down, enabling Mike to safely approach and pet him, thus turning the wolf into a valuable ally.

If Mike opted to kick Wolfie out of fear, there’s still a chance to make things right and foster friendship. Retrieve a bone from the chapel box to offer as a peace gesture, allowing Mike to safely pet Wolfie and establish a bond for future scenarios.

B. Chapter Nine Encounter

In Chapter Nine, Mike returns to the Sanatorium, where he can reconnect with Wolfie. If their bond has been damaged, and Mike previously kicked the wolf, Wolfie will turn away, severing their friendship. Conversely, if Mike has previously befriended him, Wolfie will eagerly approach Mike, seeking affection and willing to follow him throughout the building.

As Mike attempts to evade the Wendigos, executing Quick-Time Events (QTEs) accurately is crucial. If done incorrectly, Wolfie may intervene to protect Mike, ultimately leading to his own demise. There are three critical moments in the Sanatorium that threaten Wolfie’s life:

  • Stealthily Avoiding the Wendigo: Remain still during the ‘Don’t Move’ cue and successfully complete the QTE to grab the rolling bottle. Failure will result in Wolfie rushing to help, which could cost him his life.
  • Explosive Barrel Sequence: Swiftly complete the QTE to roll the barrel between two Wendigos. Failing to do so or opting not to shoot will create a tough situation: shooting one Wendigo will force Wolfie to distract the other, resulting in his death.

The last crucial moment arises during Mike’s flight from the Sanatorium, when he faces a series of doors with choices to stand idly, escape, or barricade. Choosing to barricade the door allows Wolfie to survive while ensuring Mike’s escape. Should Mike selfishly jump down the hole instead, Wolfie will die at the hands of the Wendigo. By blocking the door, Mike not only secures Wolfie’s life but can also bid him farewell and unlock the “The Skillful Wolf Man” achievement by eliminating the Sanatorium threat.

Be mindful that decisions throughout the game significantly affect character destinies. Your prompt reflexes and strategic thinking can save or end a life. Stay alert and make wise choices.
