After being accused by Baby Reindeer fans of being Richard Gadd’s actual stalker, a woman has finally spoken out and broken her silence.
Ever since its debut on Netflix earlier this month, the highly praised series has mesmerized viewers. The show follows Donny (Gadd), a struggling comedian who becomes the target of a stalker named Martha (Jessica Gunning).
Despite being inspired by Gadd’s personal life, the characters in Baby Reindeer have been deliberately given different names. However, this has not deterred online investigators from tirelessly attempting to uncover their true identities.

Recently, the alleged true identity of Martha has come forward to address the accusations and reveal that she has been subjected to cyberbullying.
The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, spoke to the Daily Record and stated, “I am the victim in this situation, not Richard Gadd. I have received death threats because of his show, even though many of the things he said are simply untrue.”
“A threatening message from an online user stated, ‘I will kill you if I find you.’ A man from North Carolina also claimed that he and others would stalk me, accusing me of stalking Gadd. The fear of his supporters potentially carrying out these threats kept me up for two hours last night.”
The 58-year-old, who holds a law degree from Aberdeen University, stated that she has not yet watched Baby Reindeer, but has been exposed to different aspects of the series, such as the cafe scene.
She claimed that the scene I was shown, where I was in a cafe with him, did not actually occur.
“I was at a bar where everyone was joking and teasing about undergarments and other topics. I only saw him a couple of times, in the company of others.”
“I never went on solo dates with Gadd or had intimate outings with him. There were always others present and we never engaged in sexual activity.”
“I have been in Richard Gadd’s presence at times, but I never pursued him as he alleges. He believes this is a severe violation of my personal space. However, it has been 12 years since I last saw him,”she added.
I learned that he had written that show for the festival four or five years ago, and it shocked me. Over the weekend, I searched for Richard Gadd and Baby Reindeer on Google, and I saw countless articles and stories about them, all in bright lights.
Four or five years ago, I had already known about him referring to the character as Martha and I had also seen a photo of the actress. However, I do not believe that I resemble the actress who plays Martha.
“I can relate to the situation between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, as I feel like I am also being unfairly persecuted. In this scenario, I am the Johnny Depp, facing attacks from irrational individuals on the internet.”
Despite receiving numerous social media messages, the woman remains determined to not let them silence her and is focused on moving forward with her life.
Upon recalling the first time she encountered Gadd, she remarked, “He was at a bar, constantly talking about it and acting as if I were a stalker. He also mentioned that he enjoys Googling people and had come across an article about me.”
“It was evident that he had been spreading the word that I was a stalker.”
Gadd personally addressed fans on Instagram this week, urging them to refrain from speculating on the identities of the real-life individuals portrayed in Baby Reindeer. This came after accusations were made that British director Sean Foley was the inspiration for the character Darrien, played by Tom Goodman-Hill.

In addition to denying this to be true, the creator also asserted that it was not the focus of our show.
“People whom I adore, have collaborated with, and look up to (including Sean Foley) are being unfairly embroiled in speculation. I kindly urge you not to speculate about the real-life identities of these individuals. That is not the intention of our show,”he expressed in a statement.
Ever since the Daily Record interview was posted on the internet, countless viewers have echoed this sentiment, including one Reddit user who stated, “Based on her Depp comment, it appears she still lacks an understanding of her actions. However, that does not justify tracking her down and exposing her. Such behavior is abhorrent and those who engage in it are essentially online stalkers.”
“I was aware that it would only be a matter of time. I apologize that this situation escalated and that others refused to let it go,”stated one person, as another chimed in with, “I’m not sure if giving this woman more attention is beneficial. She should be allowed to step out of the public eye to focus on her well-being and mental health, rather than being given more opportunities to behave recklessly.”
The movie Baby Reindeer is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
