Woman fatally shot by ex-boyfriend while filming TikTok video

A woman was fatally shot by her ex-boyfriend while she was filming a TikTok video with a friend.

The New Albany Police were summoned to Village Drive after receiving reports of a woman being shot in the early morning of August 10, 2024.

Kaitlynn Lee, a 25-year-old mother of three, was identified as the victim. According to an unnamed witness, Lee and her partner were filming a TikTok video in their apartment kitchen when they heard banging on the window.

Joshua Thompson, Lee’s 25-year-old ex-boyfriend, was discovered to be the person who fired through the window. Lee was transported to the hospital but was declared deceased.

Detectives examined the TikTok video that Lee and her friend were recording during the shooting, which originally captured them “laughing, dancing, and lip-syncing to a song.”

A blast was later observed near the kitchen window, causing smoke to linger in the room until the video ended.

According to the witness, Thompson and Lee’s relationship was described as “toxic”and they were constantly in conflict with each other. It was later discovered that Lee had relocated several times in order to protect herself and her children from her ex-partner, and she had confided in friends that if she were to be found dead, it would be at the hands of Joshua.

Thompson was previously charged with felony domestic battery in April, which was committed in the presence of a child under the age of 16. Three weeks later, a no-contact order was issued against him.

According to Lee’s aunt, Pamela Greenwell, Thompson had a history of physically abusing her, leaving her with severe bruises. Even though Lee had obtained an EPO, it was unable to protect her. In light of this tragic event, the family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral expenses and provide support for Lee’s children.

Thompson fled the scene after the fatal shooting. However, he eventually contacted his brother and admitted to committing the crime. He then called the police and agreed to surrender himself. As a result, he has been charged with murder and is currently in custody at Floyd County Jail.
