Woman’s Horror Dating Story with “Finance Bro” Goes Viral as it Highlights Generational Differences

Despite documenting her first date experience in a new city on TikTok, creator Molly Rutter was ultimately disappointed when the Gen-Z “finance bro”ghosted her. This led to her making a viral video about the entire ordeal.

Molly Rutter took her TikTok followers along for the ride as she went on her first date in Buffalo, New York since moving there. However, things did not go as planned. Despite her expectations, the “finance bro”date ended up ghosting her at the last minute, and her video documenting the experience has received over 3.5 million views.

“Molly began the video by stating, “I believe I have a date tomorrow, which will be my first one in Buffalo.”She continued, “My date is going to assist me with my taxes and we plan on grabbing some beer. It sounds like it will be a fun time.”

Despite the initial positive tone of the video, the scene quickly shifts to Molly a day later as she recounts her disappointment in being “ghosted”by her date. She reveals that they had agreed to meet at 5 or 6pm, after she had finished her nap, but he had not contacted her since 3pm.

Molly conveyed her authentic enthusiasm for the upcoming date and was let down by the fact that it would have been her first one in a long time.

“I dislike dating in this modern era,”she expressed. “Perhaps it was my error for choosing someone so young. I am 32 years old and he was only 23, so it’s not surprising that he acted in a typical 23-year-old manner. However, it’s important to note that even someone my age or older could have behaved in the same way.”

The TikToker informed her followers that her date had unintentionally dozed off. As Molly had already made plans with her friend, she extended an invitation for the date to meet her at a bar later that night.

“At first, he had offered to assist me with my taxes as he is knowledgeable in finance, but I ultimately decided to file an extension,”she shared with the camera. “If things go well with him, perhaps he could lend a hand with my financial matters.”

Although she initially stated she wasn’t nervous about the date, she later added to the video that her body may have sensed he was going to cancel, possibly sparing her from any additional emotional attachment.

Upon reaching the bar, she let her followers know that her date was experiencing a delay.

“After attempting to call him and reaching his voicemail, she joked, “He must be dead, right?”However, Rutter ultimately concluded that her date had once again ghosted her, mere minutes before they were supposed to meet up.”

Molly expressed frustration, asking, “Can you believe how difficult it is to send a simple text like that?”

“It’s frustrating because this situation has consumed a significant amount of my thoughts and it greatly affects me. It’s disappointing when my time and mental energy is wasted on individuals who do not deserve it.”

After hearing about Molly’s experience, numerous commenters were more critical of the fact that she was “ghosted”by the “finance bro”, and attributed her dating ordeal to their differing generations.

“One person commented, “He’s from a different generation,” to which another user replied, “That explains the communication gap.”

Molly pointed out that the ‘finance bro’ frequently addressed her as “love” and “ma’am” in his messages, and often made self-deprecating jokes while complimenting her. She believed that this behavior made him appear even more youthful.

Despite creating their own slang language, Gen Z is also recognized for their use of self-deprecating humor, commonly referred to as “Gen-Z humor.”Molly mentioned that this type of humor was a major turn-off for her.

Despite their seemingly insignificant nature, these small factors can amplify the perceived age difference between two individuals, potentially explaining why Molly, along with others in the comments, took issue with a Millennial dating a member of Gen Z. Only time will reveal the outcome when the “robotic”members of Gen Alpha reach dating age.
