As reported by IZE on October 7th, the original drama “Wongyeong,” produced by tvN and TVING, is set to premiere in January 2025, airing on Mondays and Tuesdays on tvN. Fans can expect the series to be available simultaneously on TVING on the same schedule.

“Wongyeong” will feature a total of 12 episodes across both networks, although there might be slight variations in content. The TV version will be presented by tvN, while TVING will provide the OTT version. Similar to past collaborations like “No Gain No Love,” certain scenes could be modified based on the platform. There is also ongoing dialogue regarding a potential 19+ rating on TVING, contingent on the nature of the content.

In addition to the 12 main episodes, viewers will be treated to two exclusive prequel episodes that will only be available on TVING, adding an exclusive touch for subscribers of that platform. This special release is anticipated to enrich the overall storytelling experience, drawing interest in how the prequel will enhance the main narrative.

The details concerning the tvN and TVING versions of “Wongyeong” were discussed during the “2024 CJ Movie Forum ‘Navigating the New Paradigm’” held on October 4th at CGV Centum City in Haeundae-gu, Busan.

During the CJ Movie Forum, Jang Kyung-ik, CEO of Studio Dragon, emphasized that “Wongyeong” incorporates 19+ themes, stating, “The style will be tailored for tvN, while the 19+ variant will be accessible via TVING.” This statement clarified the distinctions between the two versions of the series.

The narrative of “Wongyeong” follows the passionate journey of Queen Wongyeong, who aspired to create a new world in the early Joseon Dynasty, contributing to her husband Lee Bang-won’s rise as the third king and helping to establish royal authority together. Cha Joo-young will portray the role of Queen Wongyeong.
