World of Warcraft: The War Within introduced a wealth of new content, but it also brought some challenges, particularly regarding the Delves activity. Blizzard’s handling of Delves has generated mixed reactions, leaving the community divided.
Since the launch of the expansion, various issues in Delves have surfaced, many of which were unintended. While the overtuning was a problem, several unforeseen interactions and a bug that caused Brann to act inconsistently created significant challenges.
This was especially true for solo players and Tanks, who encountered more difficulties than other roles. After a series of updates rolled out over a few days, the situation within Delves has improved, suggesting that future adjustments may be minimal.
In a post on Reddit, one player expressed their belief that the difficulty of Delves would ultimately lead to player improvement.
This opinion sparked considerable debate, as many players felt that their class/spec choices hindered their ability to succeed based on the current design of the activity.
“You can’t improve when you’re a boomkin with a one-minute cooldown interrupt. It’s the same issue I had with Twisting Corridors back in the Shadowlands. You can’t balance solo content when the boomkin is the only spec with a long interrupt cooldown,” one commenter stated.
Others pointed out that ongoing imbalances in the Delves activities were the main reason they struggled. “I don’t have a problem with Delves except for that Webshot ability or whatever it is that takes 25-40% of my HP and I can only interrupt it once every 20 seconds during a boss fight,” another user argued.
“Unstoppable damage that can kill me in 10 seconds isn’t a skill check; it’s just bad design. Being able to dodge everything, use cooldowns during unstoppable damage, and still lose isn’t a skill check; it’s random and leads to forced losses.”
Despite some pushback, certain players resonated with the original poster, highlighting the difficulty Blizzard faces in satisfying all players.
“People are going to downvote you for saying this, but I want you to know that I agree. I’m excited for players to learn how to use their defensive talents, time their cooldowns effectively, and generally improve their gameplay because they can’t simply rely on typical ‘healer mechanics,’” someone replied in support.
Blizzard will continue to monitor the situation in Delves, and player feedback significantly influences their decisions. Whether the difficulty will remain high is still uncertain, but considering the excellent gear quality rewarded to successful players, Blizzard is likely to keep the challenging aspects of this activity intact.
