WoW Players Finally Awarded Rare Mount from 10 Years Ago

The Warlord’s Deathwheel Mount emerged as the victor in the 2014 Azeroth Choppers competition, where the worlds of Warcraft and the reality TV show American Chopper collided. Divided into in-universe Alliance and Horde Factions, two teams dedicated weeks to constructing WoW-inspired motorcycles for a web series.

Despite winning the fan-voted competition, not all Horde players who logged in to WoW between August 1 and September 30, 2014 received the in-game Warlord’s Deathwheel that was promised to them.

After ten years, fans of Warcraft who were robbed of their mount in 2014 have finally received compensation. This has been confirmed by players like Redditor vindictive-ant, who recently gained access to the Warlord’s Deathwheel.

Following user inquiries on the Blizzard Forums, a Community Manager addressed the 2014 error by stating that it was caused by a “bug or crash”that occurred when the mount was supposed to be awarded.

In August 2024, a WoW update was released that addressed a bug and granted eligible players access to Warlord’s Deathwheel. The developer also informed users that there may have been other achievements that a small number of players were previously unable to obtain, but can now do so.

Surprisingly, this is not the initial occurrence where WoW has unexpectedly granted a rare item to users. In April 2022, a different Redditor claimed to have received access to the Warlord’s Deathwheel without any explanation.

Another individual in the thread stated that they had obtained the bike in 2018, possibly due to switching from Alliance to Horde.

Despite the Community Manager’s comment, it was ultimately discovered that the primary cause of the 2014 mistake was a bug that had taken Blizzard ten years to detect and fix.
