The focus of WoW’s 11.0.5 patch will be on a 20th Anniversary Event, featuring a Gates of Ahn’Qiraj event and the reintroduction of Timewalking.
On September 4th, Blizzard developers revealed the plans for Update 11.0.5 during a WoWCast. This update will feature a special event in honor of World of Warcraft’s 20th anniversary for players to enjoy.
The patch will bring back beloved content from the past, such as the highly sought after Blackrock Depths Raid. This challenging raid can accommodate 10 to 15 players and includes eight primary bosses and five mini-bosses, available in LFR, Normal, and Heroic modes.
As part of the celebration, the team also announced the launch of Modernized Tier 2 Transmog Sets. Players will also have the opportunity to relive the opening of the Gates of Ahn’Qiraj through a new world event, which is another significant aspect of the festivities.

During a discussion about the possibility of returning to the Gates of Ahn’Qiraj, Associate Game Designer Leah Hwang mentioned that players will be aided by Chromie, who will use a codex to show the past in a safe manner. This will inevitably lead to chaos, as enemies such as the Legion, Scourge, and Qiraji will invade Silithus.
Fans can anticipate the return of bosses Kel’thuzad, Ossirian, and Tichondrius during this “grand restoration of the past.”
The community’s enthusiasm for Timewalking prompted its revival. This means that classic WoW dungeons such as Deadmines, Zulfarrak, Dire Maul, and Stratholme will feature Timewalking. These dungeons will initially be available for the 20th anniversary, but the developers have assured players that they will become a regular part of the rotation afterwards.
This year, players will not have to enter the Caverns of Time for the anniversary celebrations as they have done in the past. The festivities will now be held outside the entrance, featuring a new event called Fashion Frenzy, which is part of the Mini-Trial of Style.
Additionally, Lorewalker Cho will be present to share stories that entice users and pique their curiosity.
In addition to activities, WoW’s anniversary event also offers various opportunities to visit the Caverns of Time area. This area boasts an ice rink, Pet Corner, and other fun activities related to cosplay.
During the WoWCast, the developers also revealed that Korrak’s Revenge, a PvP event that takes place in the classic Alterac Valley zone, will be making a comeback.
Blizzard has yet to officially announce the start date for the WoW Anniversary Event, however, a Public Test Realm will be available for players to access “very soon.”
