Blizzard Entertainment intends to discontinue its support for the WoW Companion App, resulting in its shutdown within the next few months.
The highly anticipated pre-patch for The War Within, known as Update 11.0.1, is set to be released during the summer as per World of Warcraft’s 2024 roadmap. Players can anticipate a plethora of exciting additions such as fresh World Events, powerful Warbands, enhancements to Guilds, and additional content.
As 11.0.1 approaches, players will also lose access to a key feature of the MMORPG experience. According to a blog post from the studio, the upcoming pre-expansion content update will mark the end of Blizzard’s support for the Companion App.
“According to the brief statement, the companion app and its features will no longer be available for updates, downloads, or use after this date. The Blizzard post does not provide any explanation for the sunset of the app.”
The WoW Companion App was first introduced by Blizzard in 2018, coinciding with the discontinuation of the World of Warcraft Mobile Armory app. This app, available for both Android and iOS mobile devices, allowed users to conveniently engage in activities such as buying and selling auctions, managing mission tables, and tracking world quests while on the move.
Despite the potential benefits of such functionality, World of Warcraft players have always had mixed opinions. In recent years, the app has faced challenges with connection problems and malfunctioning features.
Despite the changes, there are still players who have found ways to utilize it. Several individuals who read the blog post remarked that they continue to sign in for the purpose of completing missions and similar tasks.
It is still unclear if Blizzard has plans to release another companion app in the future.
