Wuthering Waves players praise dev for being transparent about voice acting decisions

An employee from Kuro Games’ localization team has provided insight into the reasoning behind the voice-acting decisions for Wuthering Waves.

Upon its release on May 22, 2024, Wuthering Waves faced severe criticism from players due to its buggy launch. In an effort to make amends, Kuro Games provided 10 free Lustrous Tide and a Thank You Ticket, which allowed players to choose a complimentary 5-star character in the game.

Despite its technical challenges, Wuthering Waves’ story dialogue has received criticism from certain players. Community members have expressed disappointment in the excessive amount of information, grammatical mistakes, and lackluster characters.

Additionally, a member of the Kuro Games localization team has explained the reasoning behind the majority of Wuthering Waves’ voice actors being from the UK.

A message from Ria, a member of Kuro Games’ localization team, was posted on the game’s subreddit by a user. In the post, Ria shared that Kuro decided to partner with SIDE London for their “great portfolio”and proximity to China, making communication easier compared to working with a team in the US.

“In the past, we instructed all VAs to use a US accent, even though it was not their preferred or natural way of speaking. However, after completing the first 2 main story acts, we have revised our guidance and will no longer require a US accent.”

Ria further disclosed their commitment to focusing on accents in order to maintain a consistent and authentic delivery.

As a result, players have not only commended Kuro Games for their ongoing transparency, but have also discussed the voice acting in Wuthering Waves.

“One person wrote that we have changed our direction to not include US accidents, as they were actually unintentional typos.”

“According to another user, the studio behind FFXIV and FFXVI, SIDE UK, made a major mistake with the direction in the game. The user compared it to Square Enix’s decision to have American actors use British accents in ARR.”

“I really appreciate the transparency of these Devs. Despite the rocky launch, their efforts and openness give me hope that this game will be a huge success. At the very least, I am rooting for its success,”a third fan expressed.

“The Redditor continued, expressing their commitment to supporting the game until the very end through their ongoing communication with the community.”
