Ever since its release, Wuthering Waves, created by Kuro Games, has been praised by players as one of the most generous gacha games. Along with its impressive graphics, combat, and story, the game is also known for its occasional free rewards, which add to the excitement for players.
Upon the game’s initial release, we were fortunate enough to receive two five-star characters at no cost—one from the novice convene and another through the free five-star selector ticket. However, recent leaks have unveiled that the upcoming Wuthering Waves version 1.2 update will also grant us another complimentary five-star character.
According to a reliable source on Twitter, Xiangli Yao will be available as a free character. Kuro Games also announced the addition of Zhezhi, another five-star character, alongside Xiangli Yao.

Xiangli Yao, the principal investigator at the Huaxu Academy in Jinzhou, is a highly skilled five-star character known for his Electro DPS abilities. While there were speculations about him using a Pistol, leaked information has revealed that he actually wields a Gauntlet. This would make him the second character after Yuanwu to utilize the Gauntlet as an Electro DPS.

Zhezhi is anticipated to function as a Cryo support and sub-DPS, complementing Jinshi seamlessly. While there is currently no available information about her abilities or weapons, it is possible that they will be unveiled in the near future.

Based on the expected drip marketing and banner release schedule for Jinshi and Changli, it is highly probable that Zhezhi will be prominently featured in the initial half of Version 1.2, followed by the availability of Xiangli Yao in the latter half. However, please note that this is mere speculation and subject to change.
Despite the lack of an official announcement regarding the free five-star, players can have confidence in the new characters. Considering Kuro’s reputation for generosity and providing free rewards, the leaks may indeed turn out to be accurate. We will have to wait and see once version 1.1 concludes on August 15.
