WWE Officials Make Massive Change to Prestigious SummerSlam Event

“The highly anticipated “Biggest Party of the Summer”just got even more exciting. WWE has revealed that starting in 2026, SummerSlam will follow in the footsteps of WrestleMania and take place over two days instead of one.”

In 2026, WWE will be making its way to Minneapolis, Minnesota, much to the delight of the local fans. Instead of condensing all of the excitement into one night, the event will now span over two days.

Despite being highly favored to host WrestleMania 41 in 2025, Minnesota ultimately lost out on the opportunity to host the event. The WWE ultimately chose Las Vegas, Nevada as the host destination instead.

Despite not being able to host WrestleMania, the decision to bring SummerSlam to Minneapolis and turn it into a weekend-long event provides Minnesotans with the closest alternative.

Despite making the switch in 2020 ahead of WrestleMania 36, WWE received positive feedback for transforming the event from one long Sunday card to two.

Ever since, the event has spanned two days. This decision provides more opportunities for wrestlers in the mid-card by allowing the matches to have room to grow. SummerSlam is now following suit.

SummerSlam, considered one of the top four premium live events along with WrestleMania, Royal Rumble, and Survivor Series, has long been known as the “Biggest Party of the Summer.”

Since its debut in 1988, the pay-per-view event has remained a staple in WWE programming. It has gained recognition for hosting numerous monumental matches over the course of 35 years.

One particular match that stands out is the 2002 street fight between Triple H and Shawn Michaels. It was a fierce and violent showdown between the once-close friends.

One of the most iconic matches of SummerSlam is the ladder match between Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio, which is known for its high stakes. In a unique twist, the two competitors battled for custody of Rey’s son, Dominik.

Recently, both Logan Paul and Roman Reigns have made significant impacts at the event, with Reigns’ unexpected change in character at the 2020 SummerSlam being a career-defining moment for him.

In the world of professional wrestling, there is no event more significant than SummerSlam, second only to WrestleMania. With the addition of a second night, the importance of this event will only continue to grow.

The 2026 SummerSlam PLE is scheduled to take place at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota on August 1st and 2nd.
