WWE star CM Punk calls Tony Khan a “detriment” to AEW

After only two years, CM Punk’s time at All Elite Wrestling came to an abrupt and controversial end. In a scathing statement, the former WWE champion publicly criticized AEW founder Tony Khan and shared his perspective on the situation.

In 2011, CM Punk, a multi-time WWE Champion, became notorious for delivering a “pipe bomb”promo in which he criticized the company. As a result, he eventually left the company a few years later.

Despite being retired from professional wrestling for several years, Punk came back to the ring in 2021 for All Elite Wrestling. During his time with the company, he achieved two AEW world titles.

Suddenly, chaos erupted behind the curtains.

According to reports, Punk was involved in multiple backstage incidents during his time with AEW. He had a physical altercation with Jack Perry and also had a conflict with the company’s co-founder, Tony Khan.

Khan alleged that he was in fear for his safety due to comments reportedly made by Punk, but Punk has strongly refuted making any such threatening statements.

Ultimately, these confrontations resulted in a less-than-friendly separation between the two groups.

During a recent appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Punk opened up and shared his perspective.

“Punk stated that many individuals will likely be disappointed as the organization is not a legitimate business.”

“It’s not about profits or generating revenue, it’s simply not.”

After that, Punk criticized Khan’s leadership, stating, “He may be a kind person, but I believe it ultimately harms the company.”

Helwani inquired about the continuation of AEW and Punk stated that it will remain in existence “as long as Tony [Khan] is willing to invest in it.”

The interview was a revelation for fans of professional wrestling, as the reasons behind Punk’s sudden departure from AEW were mostly undisclosed.

Despite suffering a torn triceps during this year’s Royal Rumble match, Punk has made a successful return to the WWE and has been receiving high praise. He is currently in the process of recovering from his injury.

Despite doctors not clearing him to compete, Punk has made a promise to the WWE Universe that he will make an appearance at Wrestlemania XL in some capacity.
