X-Files creator just addressed the show’s most controversial moment

Chris Carter, the creator of The X-Files, has recently revisited a particularly contentious moment from the show and shared his perspective with fans.

Despite being aired three decades ago, The X-Files remained the dominant television show in its exploration of the bizarre and unexplained. Recently, creator Chris Carter finally addressed one of the longest-standing debates surrounding the show.

Throughout the nearly ten-year run of the TV show, it was inevitable that certain plot points would spark discussions among the X-Files fanbase. One such moment that has been a source of debate for years is Scully’s pregnancy in the final episode.

In the Season 11 episode, ‘My Struggle IV’, Scully reveals to Mulder that while William is not their biological son, he was implanted into her as part of an experiment. Despite this, Scully is somehow pregnant with his child, which caused a stir among fans upon the episode’s release. This was further complicated in 2018 when creator Chris Carter stated in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that the child is indeed theirs, but also that Scully possesses alien DNA.

At a recent New York event commemorating the 30-year anniversary of The X-Files, Carter revisited the topic and provided further explanation for the scene in question.

“The topic of immortality is brought up multiple times in the show,”he informed Variety. “It was a crucial element in the series finale. As many may know, Scully reveals her pregnancy to Mulder in the last episode, which sparked controversy.”

“I was unsure why Gillian was so angry with me, but I didn’t mind the controversy. In fact, I saw it as a positive thing. The controversy surrounding Scully’s pregnancy with Emily and William is similar to the disbelief surrounding this current pregnancy – both are rooted in science fiction.”

The revelation of pregnancy is revealed at the start of this science fiction show, where the truth is discovered to be something different than what I initially had in mind. Therefore, I would like to clarify that the child is not necessarily Mulder and Scully’s.

Despite Carter’s statement that “it’s not necessarily Mulder and Scully’s child,”theories surrounding this plot point continue to circulate even after three decades. The upcoming X-Files reboot may address this topic and finally put an end to the speculation.
